She was ridden at the lot - see an earlier photo. Plus she has a racing record, so she has been ridden in the past but has been a broodmare recently. Check out byrn's thread on Kona and Jonquiltn's on Sprite for what a joy an OTTB broodmare can be. And here's a recent photo of her sweet face, kind eye, and dampish body.. (hey, she is in Washington) Thanks to gypsygirl for the photo.. not sure who the two in the background are.

Look at those cute little ears!
The Belgian is a horse that was given to Clayton recently...not sure about the other one...Milan maybe? Looks too big to be Delaney.

not sure about the other one...Milan maybe? Looks too big to be Delaney. Could be Milan - she reportedly is much slimmed down after her one month's refresher training. Incidentally, Milan has now been officially adopted by ShellyR on the CBER board and should be off to her new home sometime soon.

Gypsygirl reports that she thinks the third horse is Delaney, looking taller than Gypsy the Belgian because she is standing on a slight rise. When the photo was taken, Milan was reportedly at the shelter, eating (sigh - have to love those QH appetites, not like those finicky TBs.)

Azalea reminds me of royalty. She just carries herself that way. She has an elegant movement about her even when she is being chased out of the shelter area. Like she is saying ooohh, yucky mud, with every step. I can't believe I am dirty. Just look at me. Someone get a comb. She is too cute. She is so girly and pretty. She is one that doesn't send you looking underneath to find out is it a boy? or a girl? Love this gal ! I bet she would just love someone to doddle over her, fixing her hair and her tail in her new home, getting her ready to show off at the events this summer. She's a looker!

Pretty girl. Note that is *not* a lake behind her, but flooding.

Oh I just love her! She looks so much more relaxed than she did in her feedlot picture.
Hey Lildun - have you worked up that expanding property potion you were going to get me yet? **Sigh**

Azalea was seen yesterday by the vet. She received all her shots, was wormed, and her teeth were in bad need of a float so she was sedated and floated as well. As Thoroughbreds tend to be hard keepers, she did not fare this horrible wet winter in a herd situation as well as some of the others (she was the very bottom of the herd pecking order, is not a dominant mare) and has dropped some weight, so we have moved her to another location in Raymond, WA where she can be stalled separately and grained to help her gain weight. Other than being thin and needing her teeth done she was in good health and the vet had no concerns. She does have one half of her udder which is damaged (no mastitis, just old injury), but as she will never be bred again this is not a concern. She and several of the horses developed some rain rot due to the amount of rain we have received this year, which is being treated. Updated photo of Azalea, still sedated from her teeth floating, with SAFE volunteers giving her a betadine scrub to help with the rain rot:

Azalea is currently at the same barn with Delaney & Rain. Actually, her and Rain are sharing a pasture today (though Azalea bosses Rain around horribly!). She will be there until Weds night (she has a date with farrier on Weds), then she will be coming home to my house.

Poor Azalea I sent in an adoption application for her. I feel so bad so many are having trouble with rainrot and scratches I guess I am very fortunite where I live everything is elevated so no mud. We have a barn but we also have very large pine and I forget the name of the other trees but the horses like to stand under them when it's raining and they never get wet. A woman came out today and has a rescue that I guess she needs to sell cause she can't afford the board. I said she could keep her here free but she would have to provide the food. My husband isn't happy he thinks she is taking advantage of me I just like to help out and we have more than enough room.

dakota2mariah - I received your application in a readable format (also applying for Honeycutt) and left you a message with my phone number. Would also like to discuss foster care possibilities. Give me a call at your convenience.

I spent some time with Azalea yesterday...what a sweet mare. It is clear that this mare was handled really well by someone in her past. She knows all about lowering her head so you can slip the blanket on & off (her blanket liner is a closed front), leads nicely, knows all about box stalls, going in & out for turnout, picking up her feet.
Her mouth is still a bit sore from all of her dental work, so she's being started on soaked Equine Senior & alfalfa pellets along with having started her transition to a rich orchardgrass hay. We're soaking her local grass hay to make it easier for her to chew. She is sharing a pasture with Rain for a few days and Rain needs her hay soaked as well, so it works out even if they decide to switch piles (which they do every few minutes as Azalea bullies Rain around, trying to see if Rain has a better selection).
I feel really privileged that I'm going to be able to watch this mare bloom. She is truly a lovely horse. (and one who REALLY wants to go back to being a pampered prima donna ;D)
