In the spirit of a Christmas that is less about "stuff" and more about giving, why not make a donation to SAFE in honor of a family member or friend? SAFE will acknowledge your gift by mailing a personalized card to its recipient that features this holiday photo of our handsome Honeycutt. Your contribution will be tax-deductible and your gift will spread the joy of the holidays to horses and humans alike. For a minimum donation of $25, the recipent of your gift will receive this card, personalized inside to include their name as well as your name as the gift giver. Please provide the name and address of your honoree in the "notes" section of your payment. Please allow 3 business days for your card to be mailed. To send your gift donation via PayPal, please click here! NOTE: Anyone who has already made a donation in the month of December is more than welcome to "gift" it to a loved one...just PM me with the information and I will take care of it! This offer is also extended to anyone who donates to help the Flood Victim horses.

I'd like to do this, too, and will donate $30, but I'd like the card to go to a - I think it's five-year-old - girl, the daughter of a coworker. She lives and breathes horses. I want to encourage that (plus her father will be able to afford a horse or two for her down the line...)
Her name is Bella. I will put the address for the card in the PayPal directions.
Happy Holidays!
MTA: Oops, didn't seem to be a place for info, so I emailed it to donate@safehorses.org

Thanks, Bella loved her card. ;D Can anyone help her dad give Bella a horse experience? Bella, as it turns out, is 3-1/2 -- but so precocious I was certain she was around 5. She asked for one present for Christmas this year, a pony. Dad explained their yard isn't big enough for a pony yet, but has called far and wide about maybe getting some lessons so she would have part of her wish. She is too young, by minimally 2-1/2 years, according to everyone he has spoken with. Dad thinks Bella would be so happy just to meet some horses, and he and mom would be delighted to take her on a field trip sometime in 2008. Can anyone help, or does anyone have any suggestions for Bella's wish? Thanks very much. Mary [Edited to explain time frame]

Where does Bella live? I would be happy to have her out one weekend to "meet the crew". Vanna is also a perfect babysitter and would happily let her sit on her back and be led around, which is just about all you can do with kids that age.

Bella and her family live in Seattle but I'm sure Monroe would not be a problem. That would be so lovely, and something her dad could tell Bella will happen next year so she can look forward to it. ;D
My email is metintucson@netzero.net if you want to write me about this. In the meantime, I'll pass it on as a possibility, if that's okay.
Thank you so much!
Mary

Jaime, if you have received either of my emails or the one from Bruce (Bella's dad) re scheduling Bella's upcoming horse experience, will you let me know so I can take it off of my list of things to follow up? Neither he nor I want to be a pest and I'm sure with all you do - and with so many commitments in your life - that you're slammed most of the time. But you once mentioned you weren't getting others' emails so I thought I ought to check. Thanks! (My office email is [ftp]mtappero@bbllaw.com[/ftp] - feel free to use it if you like.) Mary

Mary - I am so sorry...I have been slammed, what with these 6 new horses, and some work and personal things going on all at the same time. I did get the emails and unfortunately it simply had to go to the bottom of the priority list. I am still willing to do this, but it may need to wait for a couple of weeks until things settle down. Can you let Bruce know? I feel so bad.

I read your bio on the website, and know how much you do even when you're not trying to help rescue six horses! That's absolutely fine. I just wondered if the emails weren't being received. I will tell Bruce that you will get to him when you can. And thanks again for being willing to do this, you are an absolute doll and will make this little girl very very happy, whenever it can be arranged. (Though you may be ensuring a horse in Bruce and his family's life down the line........not a bad thing!) ;D

jodycat, I have the PERFECT horse for Bella to have her first experience with, and am more than happy to share him. He is one of SAFE's rescues, and he is a perfect horse for kids to be around. His name is JR, and he would love to meet her! I am sure my 3 y/old son would love to show Bella a few things too...

Well, I dunno, will there be a fight between you and Jamie and JR and Vanity Fair?

Oh Mary, if Bruce is willing to drive to Lake Stevens, JR is the perfect ambassador of SAFE to show to a little one, and Vanna wouldn't be hurt, I promise. She has had her chance to play that role many times now:

If you want me to ask about the switch, I can do that.
It's probably fine. Unfortunately, I sent the threads on Vanity Fair to Bruce a while ago, and don't know if that's what Bella is expecting (I particularly love the photo next to the cat....) And made a big deal about a covered arena (great for this climate)!
Are there photos of JR anywhere? I did a quick search (am at work and working on a rush so not a lot of time here....)
;D
