Subject: [EquineCushings] Nutrition Course
After years of being prodded to do this, and one abortive start right before a computer crash, I've decided to start offering nutrition courses. This information will apply to all horses. The basic first course, required, I'm calling NRC Plus. It will be broken into 9 or 10 sessions, one weekly, which will be sent to you in .html format. Will also set up a Yahoo group for students only, for questions.
NRC Plus will cover the basic National Research Council information, as well as what you need to know about the digestive process, the basics of supplementation (how to simplify), horses on pasture versus hay, and topics such as chelated vs inorganic mineral forms, use of nutrients and herbs in some common medical conditions. This will start in early January 2008, registration deadline December 1, 2007. Registration will be limited to 30 until I see how it goes. Cost is $200. A copy of the NRC is helpful but not required and material given will include changes to the old NRC which is still available online.
Also in the works is Ration Balancing Plus, where the informtion from NRC Plus will be put to use. This will also include tips for getting regional hay analysis figures if you can't have your hay analyzed, toxic minerals and how to research them in your area's water and soil, impact of minerals and other contaminants in your water supply, how to build a core diet and supplement plan that can be easily adapted to horses with different needs. Another will deal in depth with IR, another with performance (all types).
Anyone interested in NRC Plus please e-mail me privately, also any questions.
Eleanor
