With a sad and heavy heart I write this message, Beautiful Ginger crossed the Rainbow Bridge at 1:00pm today, she was surrounded by her family who loved her dearly, she spent the morning being groomed to the nines, and her normal breakfast of grain was replaced by a full bucket of treats. My percious Ginger lost the ability to lock her legs while sleeping these past few weeks, and before a horrible tragedy might have happened, the vet, Neil and I decided to release her from any pain. We could not be selfish, we owed it to her to have a good and peaceful death. I could write pages and pages of how wonderful of a mare she was, honestly in my 48 yrs, I've never met a better horse, she was willing as they come, an alpha mare in her herd but yet the kindest and most gentle soul with her people. It has been the greatest gift to me to be able to serve her the past 2.5 yrs, my only regret was not having her with me her entire life. Ginger was truely an exceptional mare and will remain in my heart until we meet again. Once again I thank SAFE for saving her from slaughter and allowing me to serve as her steward.

Oh, I am so sorry! Ginger had the most wonderful life with you, and I'm positive she knew that. Thank you for being brave for her up to the end and doing what was best for her. Thank you for showing her the love she so badly needed to know was out there.
My thoughts are with you in the hardest of times.

Oh Tina, I am so terribly sorry. I know how much you loved Ginger. I only wish that I had not put off coming up to visit...I just didn't realize she had so little time. Anyway, I do take comfort (and I hope you will as well) in the fact that I know that Ginger could not have had a better home and been better cared for than she was with you. You gave her two wonderful years where she knew she was loved and kept comfortable, which is the best that an old arthritic horse with a horrible past could hope for. THANK YOU for giving her that...its people like you that give us the courage and strength to keep doing what we do - knowing that there are others that will adopt those horses that we find special but perhaps most wouldn't due to their age or other issues. You never cared about any of that with Ginger and saw past her old arthritic knees to only see the beauty of her inside and out, and how special she truly was. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. My filly is up at Black Raven right now back in training so I can stop by the next time I am visiting and just give a little support and an ear, if you like.

Oh Tina!!!! I am just seeing this and I am heartbroken. Ginger was one of my all time favorites...Ginger and Olly were the two horses who tugged at my heart the most when their pictures came up on the CBER website 2 years ago. I have loved getting to know her thru you and knowing that we did a good thing when we got her off that lot. Thank you very much for being such a wonderful owner and having the courage to do the right thing for her when the time came. It must have been a terribly hard thing to do...I wish I could do more right now than say I am sorry. God speed Ginger...I know you are running and jumping like the champion you were.

OH NO, I am so sorry to hear about your beautiful mare Ginger. Your heart must be very sad, but at least you had 2 1/2 years. And they were good years for both of you. I am sure you will continue to miss her for quite a long time. My heart goes out to you and your family. Laurie
