Thank you Peggy.
No, I think Bo is beyond Adequan or any other phamacutical help at this point. Hannah said maybe months of stall rest, if it were a tear/rupture, would get him pasture sound, but with his age, poor condition, and the amount of pain he is in, it would not be wise or humane to try at this point. We have no idea how long he has been dealing with this injury either - I am guessing quite a while. I think the heat I felt in his left hind is from the strain of weight bearing...and he's bearing so little weight on the right hind I don't know how much longer that left hind will hold up.

This is pretty much exactly what I had going on with Raquita in terms of lameness...in her case, the hind left had lost most of its function and she would drag the toe and swing the leg in a circle to get forward, so it was stressing the other leg greatly, and she would fall if she tried to pivot around quickly, and on little hills on the pasture. You just can't keep them going if they're like that, and you don't want to see them suffer. I understand the weirdness of having to put something to sleep that is eating and perky and not close to death if you let nature take its course...but if a leg is that bad where they cannot support themselves on it, you don't really have any choice. What a !$&!$& his former owner is to have sent him to auction in that condition.

So sorry to hear about Bo. At least his days are going to be full of love and the care he so deserves. Thank you.

Well, more sad news about our Bo. The bute helped a bit this afternoon but by 7pm he was terrible to watch...dragging that poor hind leg around in circles and clearly in pain. He has worsened since he came here and I am not sure why other than he was masking it before, perhaps due to depression or anxiety about being in a new place. I called Hannah and discussed with her, almost took him down to Pilchuck tonight, but loaded him up on bute again and watched him and it did help, and he started walking straight and grazing peacefully although still favoring that hind leg. I haven't gotten a call back from Pilchuck to see if I can get a regular appointment on Saturday. Hannah agreed that if the bute isn't cutting it she will come give him something stronger for the trailer ride (its short, only about 20 minutes, but still). So for now he is holding steady but it is hard to watch, and if I can't keep it managed I will take him in on an emergency. Poor, poor guy.

This is just so sad to read, but like the others said, he could not have asked for a better place to spend his last weeks. Hugs coming your way for both yourself and for Bo.

So Bo is a bit of a conundrum. This morning at 8am, before his bute, he was much, much better. Walking in a straight line, bearing more weight on the bad leg. He also ate his grain much better this morning. That said, he has an appointment on Saturday at 11am.

Jaime, I abide by whatever decision you and vets make - and I understand completely how hard this is. I'm glad the bute's giving him at least a little bit of relief.

Jaime, I will check with Jorrod to see if he isn't working and can take the munchkin, and if so, I can go with you if you would like. Not the easiest thing to have to do on your own.

Thank you for caring enough for Bo to make that difficult decision.....and for being there with him. He passed on with the dignity and love that he so deserved! Thank you Jaime and (SAFE) for all that you do.

At least he never knew the pain and chaos of a slaughter truck. Thank you for rescuing this poor boy in his final hours.
