I'm just loving this photo taken by my son today at the Seattle Mounted Police Demonstration/Barn tour we went to yesterday. Taken during their smoke-bomb demonstration, their horses are quite literally Bomb-Proof and couldn't resist this photo op...

Jet- that's very cool, do they do it often or was it a one time kind of deal?

Jet- that's very cool, do they do it often or was it a one time kind of deal? I think they do it once a year. We enjoyed the Demo and the stable tour given by the King Conservation Department. They talked about manure management and proper footing/drainage/etc... In their FABULOUS arena they use a mix of recycled rubber and sand. Outside in the paddocks they dug down 3 ft to do proper layers of sand, drainage pipes, geo fabric, 5/8's minus and then a top layer 7/8ths (which they said they would have probably done a 5/8ths clear...that the 7/8ths was a mistake but they're living with it!)

Adorable filly Hops. Jet, you should enter that picture in a contest or frame it for the Seattle Mounted Police. Very cool.

I love my horse. First camping trip of the season, I think this is a sign for a great year.

I do wonder why there were only horns scattered about (what happened to the rest of the animal?)...is that normal...to find a set even!? And from this angle I'm not sure that was a comfy ride back. I'm sure in reality they didn't poke you but it does raise the question...ya know? Very cool photo...

Jet, the deer/elk / meeses ;D shed their horns . On some trees you can see on the bark where they rub the velvet off. The marks are usually head height on the tree trunk...

That's right:-)
They were elk antlers (horns are hollow, antlers are solid). It is very unusual to find a full set; but trust me, we looked..... the one I found was really fresh; still had pink/red on it where it disconnected.

And here I thought the versatile Khramer also killed the darn thing. ;-) If only. He would have made me sooooo proud! Ha ha ha. (Elk are scary!) Sera and I pushed a herd of deer his direction and he tried to chase after them. It was really cute. I can't wait to get him around cows. We just got a new wonderful 3 horse gooseneck (it even had air conditioning for the horses) so lots of rides ahead for my herd.
