true. Luckily, my vet is amazing with teeth. That's his specialty. He travels all over going to dental seminars and stuff like that (and it really doesn't hurt that he's very easy on the eyes, too ) I'll figure out how to make O'Hara as fat as he was when I sold him (I had a hard time keeping weight OFF him when I had him! LOL. He used to get fat on air...) I just want him in my barn NOW! (Nope... not impatient at all...)

She came out and looked around. She did seem genuinely upset about having to get rid of him. She has 4 other horses and her step-daughter lost interest in all of them and started refusing to go out to the barn to help her step-mom take care of them, even though they were all her horses in the first place. Spoiled brat. Anyway, have I ever mentioned that I love my trainer? I was super-nice to the lady, played a little bit dumb, and my trainer was extremely sweet as well (it was almost sickening), but she kept making little remarks that I found highly amusing. Like, when the lady was telling us that she was SOO concerned about no one wanting a 28-year-old horse, my trainer jumps in with, "Well, except for the kill buyers. Isn't it lucky that Jessica saw your ad? How wonderful!" And I had to giggle a little bit on the inside.... But she likes the place and likes me, so we're going to get him on Saturday. I already have Katie all lined up to play photographer for the day, since I wont be thinking about it at all, and I know how you all are picture fiends! Which is actually good that you bug me about it. Otherwise I'd never take pictures and the ones I do get I always cherish....

That's the first thing I'd do. Though I'll bet anything he just needs his teeth done and may be at the point of needing to be a mush eater. I've come to the conclusion that a lot of the over-25 crowd just flat out needs to eat mush. Even if you maintain their teeth, by that age, they just aren't going to be good enough to be 100% effective...the mush solves the whole problem. Luckily for me he's a hay dunker! ;D He likes to make hay soup. Not like dunk a mouthful at a time, but more like take as much hay as possible and CRAM it into the water buckets- as much as they will hold. Then he lets it sit for about 15 minutes and munches on his grain while he waits for his hay to be thoroughly soaked. LOL. I remember going through new water buckets every 6-12 months.... daily SCRUBBING will go through buckets pretty quickly. YAY I'm getting him in 5 hours!!!! ;D Not that I'm counting or anything.

K, I suppose he's not a "horse in need" anymore, so if the moderators want to move his thread, that's cool. Well, I was expecting the worst. When she said she wanted to put a little more weight on him, I think she thinks he's skinny because he's swaybacked. But he's not skinny at all. A little plump in some areas, a little lumpy/squishy in other areas, not not skinny by any means. Then I was worried about him potentially having cushings, because she had told me that he was really hairy and hadn't shed, which was unusual for him. However, Katie and I busted out the shedding blade, and it's amazing what a little bit of elbow grease can accomplish. I expect him to be all shed out and shiny in a few more weeks. He does need to see a farrier, his toes are a little long but not bad, and the vet is coming out next week anyway and I'll have his teeth checked, but other than that, he's in great shape for 28 years old (almost 29- he'll be 29 early June if I remember correctly).

And (drumroll please!) here's the pictures: ;D O'Hara in crossties with Jack and the other nosy horses on the other side of the fence who can't seem to mind their own business! O'Hara's butt... Jack was getting extremely jealous of all the attention Hara was getting. Note how much hair we got off..... And the front shot: Here's when I started to lose interest in the shedding blade and started playing with my camera... Isn't he cute? (I'm going to re-post this picture for a comparason of one of our old show photos as soon as I can scan it in....) Here's the carpet-o-hair we finished with after my arms got tired.... he's still shedding a ton. In his stall after his grooming session: And with his (filthy) blanket on all ready to go to bed! Note his belly hanging out from under his blanket.... hmmm... I may have to get one with a belly wrap for next year... I love Schneider's blankets and this is a good excuse for me to get one! Sorry about the poor picture quality on some of these. My digital camera and I are still becoming acquainted with each other....
