FREE horse Reply to: sale-624430589@craigslist.org Date: 2008-03-30, 4:34PM PDT This horse is 28 years old and needs a caring home -- great pasture or stable mate for another animal. 16 hand Saddlebred gelding, ex-show horse. Can still be ridden but not for long periods of time or by large people. We maintain the right to refuse a home if the circumstance is not right for this special horse. ask for liz. 503-638-4017 I have a HUGE soft spot for Saddlebreds! Crap, I may have to find out more information on this one.....

OMG I can't believe it- The reason why I have a huge soft spot for Saddlebreds is because my very first horse that I bought for a dollar when I was 13 years old was a Saddlebred named O'Hara. I HAD to email this lady because I noticed that the horse is now 28... I did some math and realized that was approximatley the same age as O'Hara would be. Something weird was going off in my head telling me to just at least see if it's him. Guess what? Yup, it's Hara!!! I immediately told her I'd take him. No questions asked. The lady seemed extremely relieved and quite nice, actually. Her daughter (who I sold him to) apparently lost interest in horses a few years ago, and she felt bad because he was just sitting around doing nothing. I already called my trainer (I was almost in hysterics- I can't really afford another horse at my current barn and besides that we're full anyway) and she calmed me down and reassured me that we'll figure something out and make it work. My friend Katie also said she'd help with boarding costs until I can figure something out. The horse pretty much taught me to ride... I figure I owe him a decent retirement. I'll take another job if I need to.... I'm NOT letting him go again! He's going to be with me until he dies. Period.

I'm still in shock. But getting more excited to see him again and get him in my barn! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Out of all the horses I've owned and re-homed, he's the only one that I seriously regretted letting go.
K, guys, I've never owned a geriatric horse before. I may be posting on here quite often for advice. The lady who has him says she's been having a hard time keeping weight on him, so I was going to look at what she's feeding and most likely have my vet run a blood panel just to make sure everything is working as it should. Other than that... I'm a little curious to see what condition he's in.
I'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst......
(Edited because my misspellings apparently don't get caught by spell check LOL)

J, I know you wouldn't have done any differently, but I am so proud of you! That is AWESOME news!!! ;D ;D What an instinct, too! When stuff falls into place like this, it usually works out (the expenses etc) Let me know if I can help (do you need a larger blanket, for example?)

Let me know if I can help (do you need a larger blanket, for example?) Aw, that's so sweet. No, I actually still have his blanket and a lot of his old stuff (I couldn't bring myself to get rid of it!) Plus, Jack and O'Hara wear the same size blanet now, since Jack bulked up. I'm hoping to get him this weekend- that's when we have a stall at the barn opening up (I didn't even know that the BO sold one of her horses.... I absolutely believe in fate now)

P.S. See, all of this screwing around on the Internet is actually valuable and important.

P.S. See, all of this screwing around on the Internet is actually valuable and important. Yeah it is! It's EXTREMELY important to always surf the internet when you have "better" things to do! Okay, I think I'm calming down now.... my roller-coaster day is slowing down.... this is emotionally exhausting! I'll recruit Katie to take many pictures of everything, since I probably wont even be thinking about it. Moderators: I suppose we can move this thread out of the "Horses in Need" section now..... ;D
