Rachelle, I gave clearlybluebreeze the foal halter to give to you and also a couple of leftover milk test strips if you can use them. They are expired but they should still work. I wasn't thinking you could use them as Adara is so scared still, but since you mentioned Hannah was able to wash her udder then perhaps she will let you express some milk. Anyway, they work pretty well, at least they did with my mare (I never could use them with Vivian).

Well there are only two of them, so use them sparingly!

Will do. First I have to convince her that I won't hurt those poor swollen things... Easier said than done.

Adara and I had a short battle of wills today. I went to the grocery store and since it was raining and sometimes my hill to the barn gets inpassable with too much rain, I put the van back up top again. Instead of taking up later tonight. Well, I get out, load up the plastic bags on my arms and head on over to see if she needed hay or anything before going back down to the house (hay is down by the house - safe myself a trip if I look first). So I get over next to the stall, she pops her head up and whirls away and tries to push herself through a corner of her stall. I froze and just stood there. She gradually relaxed, still had the 'white wide' eyes, but was standing still. So I took a step forward, talking to her, and she does it again. Well, duh, it finally occurred to me that she probably hasn't seen or heard a plastic bag before. So I set down my groceries, unloaded one bag into several and found myself a stick. I put the bag on the end of it and put it into the stall (still holding it of course but so the bag was hanging out there not too far from her). And I stood there and stood there and stood there... In the pouring rain getting myself and the groceries soaked. She wasn't budging one little bit. Occasionally I wiggle the stick. It got to the point where she stood still and didn't try to climb through the wall anymore, but still she wouldn't move away from her spot. So after another half an hour, I told her all I wanted was one tiny sniff and the horse eating bag would leave. She shot me this look I wish I could have gotten on camara. It was so funny. It took about another 20 minutes but she stuck her long neck out (still not budging from her spot) and gave it a good sniff. So the horse eating bag disappeared. Then she came right up to the door and let me pet her. I guess I get to work on bags with her now. The kids are always taking bags out to pick the fruit around here, can't have her freaking out everytime she sees or hears one. So, I'm soaked and cold, I thought she'd never give in and take a sniff. Of course her nose was a good 10 inches away from it, but she definetly sniffed.

No baby yet. I haven't done much today as we had our rescued mustang stallion gelded. But she's fine and just hanging out eating her hay. Thanks Schwung for the test strips and the halter. I really really appreciate it!

Okay here's a pic of Adara that I took this morning. She always takes her hay out of her bin and then she eats it...

I think she is, but then I see her everyday. Currently she layed down, got up turned in a circle and layed back down again... then about 20 minutes later she got up got a drink and is now eating (as of 5 minutes ago)... We'll see. It's the first time she's layed down (one other to roll) and stayed down since I've had her. Dr. Hannah is on her way back out here. The rescue stallion is bleeding too much from his gelding this morning. So, we're going to pack him and go from there. Poor guy. I'll try to keep everyone posted. My husband just came in and said Adara is back down again. Keep your fingers crossed we may have a baby coming.

Yep everything at once I don't know which way to turn.. Kittens this morning, Rhoens' gelding, now he's bleeding too much, Adara's down... I think I'll sleep real good when I finally get to bed tonight. I'm leaving my computer on, browser open, but don't know how often I'll get back on here. I'll let everyone know what's up before bed tonight - if anything.

Okay, well Dr. Hannah just left. We packed Rhoen and he seems to be doing better. I'm to watch him for a while and see if the drips slow and then she'll call and we'll go from there. The drips seem to be a bit slower so that's good. Adara got up again, so we took advantage of it and cleaned her stall. As I was heading down the hill from checking Rhoen, she went back over and layed down again. I'll keep checking them both and we'll see how it goes. I'm going to grab something to eat before heading back up to the barn.
