I have renamed Roy to Rocky Road. Rocky for short. The reasons is because his entire life has been a Rocky Road and he has a brand that is a Rocking E (Rock E)

His leg is still really swollen. His vet app. is today at 10:00 so my vet will do some stuff for him. He will be feeling better in no time. His ribs arent showing quite as bad today, his top line is still really sunk though which is for 3 reasons, age and lack of muscle, and lack of fat. but I think he was just so exhausted from the trip, and the stuff with his leg, that he just seemed to look skinny. Because there is no way he could gain enough weight to hide half of his ribs (only half) which is still bad that half are showing, but not as bad as at first.

I have decided that I will not be keeping Rocky as a lesson horse as he is just a little to worried about everything, but nevertheless he is a sweety and I will be rehabilitating him, and adopting him to an approved home when he is all healed up and rehabilitated. The vet appointment went well. The vet said do what I have been doing, also do a double wrap and then put vet wrap OVER the wrap tight (not so tight that it will cut off the circulation but still tight) and it should drive the swelling out. and that I should give him banamine for the swelling as well. His teeth are rotting and need some MAJOR attention. I cannot get them done without proper donations so I have to wait until those come. Hopefully I can find them quickly as it will be about $300 for his teeth alone, plus $25 for his feet trim. My vet also said he was avery nice looking horse and once his feet and teeth get done, he will make someone a nice riding horse. Rocky's leg is so much better today. It wasnt nearly as swollen as it was yesterday and he is walking on it more and standing on it more. The actual cuts are doing good, they are starting to scab over, and I am hoping that the swelling will go away a lot by tomarrow. I am doing what my vet said and I am going to give him some banamine, and I hope that it helps...

I'm glad his leg is doing better. It's a shame you can't keep him though. Maybe he'll settle down and get calm. He's been through a lot in the last few weeks, maybe he's just really scared and needs reassurance that he won't be moving on anytime soon... I'd give him some time and see how he does. He may surprise you. That's my opinion anyway... In the meantime, keep up the good care. He'll be all better in no time.

When the vet was trying to look at his teeth, he popped up and gave him a real fight, but my vet is really good with the rescues, he just sticks with em, and always gives em a treat for being good. sorry, I really like my vet, he may be young, but he is really good at what he does. So anyways, he hates his mouth being messed with, which i already knew, so giving him the banamine wasnt easy. lol. I just stuck it next to his mouth and held it there while he threw his head around, and he kept smacking his lips, like he knew what was coming (funny how old horses are), however this must mean he has been wormed a bunch so he wasnt as neglected as the lady thought. Anyways, I he finally stopped fighting and let me calmy give it to him. I praised him lots but he spit like 1/4 of it out (grrr) I hate it when they do that. His leg is much better, He still cocks it and rests when he's in his stall, but when I am walking him, he is walking on it much better. He has been real fighty about my rope halter, like tosses his head and tries to pull through it, so I put my showmanship chain (small and smooth so that it lays flat and is more confortable for the horse) and he was a gentlemen, didnt push through me, payed attention to me, and i never once had to use it, just it being there was enough for him

Rocky is so proud of the bright orange vet wrap i put on his leg. lol he didnt like the wraps at all at first. He didnt buck or anything, but he held his leg straight out behind him, then he hopped on three legs when he walked(his leg still straight behind him), until he tripped and about nose planted it, then he decided walking on all 4s would be smarter. lol he walked normal the rest of the way to the stall. his expression was priceless, "omg, did i really just do that? you did not see that!"

his leg is doing wonderful. the swelling is almost gone in the lower half, and his hock is still a little swollen but not nearly as bad. I will get a picture tomarrow and do a compare/contrast.

He does look much better. I think he'd make a great horse once he settles down some and feels secure again.

I am sorry if people mistook the fact that i might be rehoming Rocky. Just like any other rescue, I must rehome in order to make room for other horses in need. I am not able to keep my rescues. I was hoping to keep Rocky and give lessons with him, he might not be the right horse for that, so instead of making him stay here and sit and do nothing once he is healthy and sound, I am going to give him the life he deserves with a person to love and dote on him. If you would like more updates on Rocky, please go to my website www.horseangelsrescue.com because my welcome here has outrun itself. Chauncey has found her dream home, and as promised I will be gone this Thursday with the departure of Chauncey.
