sigh, for the 3rd time im gonna try to get this entered.... As one of HC's many " AUNTIES ", i wud also like to extend my admiration for this young womans talents, consideration, dedication and devotion. If she were closer to me, i wud snap her up in a second to assist me w/ my horses..i wish had half her talents. Her chronilogical age has nothng to do w/ the amount of knowledge, skill, caring, and understanding . i wish i had even a 1/4 of her knowledge and talent.. Eric and Patty, ( wen u have a spare moment , LOL ) take a peek at the 4th page of the GENERAL CHAT section for THE FIRST ANNUAL HONEYCUTT AWARD. it expresses the thots and feelings of the SAFE members for HC. i wud also like to extend my best wishes and prayers to Patty and Eric. i lost my husband 3 yrs ago, and have experienced wat you both are going thru...take care WE LOVE U, HC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL I VERY much enjoyed your posts on Angie, we have been talking via email also. I think we will be longtime friends connected by the love of all animals and of course Painter's Lady will always be in my heart, she looks just wonderful and that was so nice for her to start a Bam page for me. patty-----------> wishing I had a daughter like her.........

Hi,
Great update, thanks for sharing. Did you get a chance to take a good look at her front hoof? To see if that crack(hole) is still there, I think it should be since she has not been trimmed I don't think. Anyway good luck with the trimming she is coming along great which makes me so happy

I didnt look very closely, but I havent noticed anything, and she travels sound. She does have a bump on her face though. That is quite noticeable. I really wonder what happend to make it like that .

a bump - where exactly on her face? Soft? Hard? Solid in like you can't wobble the base of it? Try to get a photo and post it if you can. I'm taking it no kind of discharge.

It is more towards her offside, about even with her eye. It is very hard. On the feedlot they said she probably had head trauma, possibly a skull crack. Here is a picture that shows the bump-

Poor PL, I hope she gets better, (if it's cureable). Does it conflict w/anything she does?

I dont think the bump will ever go away. I have no idea when it happend. It could possibly be the reason she was sent to the feedlot. It doesnt bother her and when I felt it, to see what it was, it didnt hurt her. So she is fine with it, so I am just going to leave it alone. it is out of the way of the bridle area and so I doubt it will ever be a problem.

My friend had a horse when we were teenagers that had a HUGE knot on his forehead the size of a baseball. It never bothered him.

Looks like an old skull fracture. I have seen a polo pony like that who got whacked with a mallet. If it's not bothering her now, I doubt it will ever bother her. It's just cosmetic.

Oh Boy...Today I went to see Lady. Bad idea, it was over 100 degrees out. Soon as I got out of the car today I had a feeling this weather was too warm. So I went and haltered Lady (which took some effort, thanks to the other horses...cough *salsa*...cough). I led her around a little bit in the pasture and then took her too the roundpen. It was quite a feat to accomplish...Lady isnt used to being out of the pasture, so everything was very new to her....
And here is were it starts to go downhill.... She wasnt exactly sure how to be lunged at first, but I started getting really warm...too warm. I started to get kinda dizzy. I thought I could just shake it off and keep going. So I worked with her a little more on the lunging, she was kind of catching on. I think she was more confused as to why I was acting funny then trying to actually lunge. She would stop in the middle of lunging and look at me. I would point at the direction I wanted her to go and gently tap the whip on the ground behind her. She looked very puzzled, I wasnt sure if she was being stubbron, had no idea what I was asking or, (this is the one I think it is)---I was giving her the wrong signal. At about this time it became very hard for me to breath and I got a major headache. So I stopped lungeing and walked to the side of the roundpen and leaned up against it. Lady still didnt quite get the roundpenning idea and I really wanted to have her end on doing the right thing. So I walked to the center asked her one more time, and she did it. My dad came and I put Lady away...Who was walking very fast to get back to her pasture, and I was too confuzzled to correct her. I really feel bad now that I think about it...I feel like I ended on a bad note with Lady. I didnt want that to happen. I feel really stupid for thinking I could be out there in that kind of heat.
Hopefully next time Ill have a better update.
