This is Dee (aka Lacey). I adopted her from the feedlot in February of this year. I was lucky enough to get her papers and was able to contact her former owner and find out about her past. Her owner had bought her 12 years ago as a weanling for $5000. When she was sent for training at age 2 she went lame. The vet was called but they never did x-rays to determine what was wrong. Her owner bred her twice and after having her for 12 years, sold her to Chuck, as she put it she was “cutting her losses with Dee”. When I found out that she has been lame for most of her life, I initially decided to just let her be a pasture pet but the longer that I have her, the more I see what a waste of a great horse it would be. She is really well bred with Leo and Sugar Bars on her papers and she is the sweetest, gentlest mare in the world. I have had a lameness test done on her and it was determined that she is lame in her fetlock. I will next have x-rays done and surgery if necessary to make her sound. No matter what happens, she will have a forever home with me

Certifiedgirl....She is only lame on her front left leg. She is sound at a walk but not at a trot or lope. There is absolutely no signs of anything being wrong with the leg. No anomolies, heat, swelling or nothing else. When the vet was out to do the lameness exam she noticed a small 1" scar on the inside of her leg in the fetlock area. It could be a coincidence or it could be something relevant. If my other horses would quit running up my vet bills, I could affford to take her in for x-rays to find out what the issue really is. At this point I am willing to do what it takes to make her sound because she is one of the sweetest horses around. My vet is in love with her and asks about her all the time!!

She is a looker. Did they try a block? I don't know if that works for a fetlock injury but it might be something to ask the vet.

Diamond - buy yourself a less expensive truck with the insurance money, use the difference to buy yourself a trailer and a set of xrays on your mare.
