Clackamas County Sheriffs Office Deputies presently investigating the discovered abandonment of two malnourished and neglected horses are seeking your help. These horses were located by Portland General Electric (PGE) employees on Wednesday, November 24TH, at about 5:30p.m. east of Estacada.
These animals were found abandoned in a wooded area, during bitter cold temperatures, with wanton disregard for their access to food or water and safety. The property they were to be found on is owned and managed by PGE, near the Mt. Hood National Forest; just east of Estacada. These horses had also been observed meandering along heavily traveled Hwy 224, earlier in the day on Wednesday. Obviously motorists in this area were at risk too!
Clackamas County Sheriffs office Deputies captured the nervous animals with considerable help provided by PGE workers. A local animal rescue has graciously volunteered to house and care for the animals until they can be adopted into a caring permanent home. The Sheriffs Office is in the process of having these horses medically examined and they are both receiving some much needed health care.
It is not known exactly when the horses were abandoned in this isolated area, but there are some indications it may have been recently.
One of the horses is a chestnut mare with two rear white socks and white blaze on the face. She has a blue left eye.
The other horse is described as a younger red chestnut gelding with a white blaze face. (Photos attached / a caretaker known only as ‘Robin' is pictured with horses)
The Clackamas County Sheriffs Office is interested in hearing from anyone who might recognize these horses and hopefully provide Deputies information regarding where they may have come from previously.
Clackamas County Deputy Sheriff Clint Pierce is the investigating Livestock Deputy assigned to this ongoing criminal investigation. Deputy Pierce can be reached through the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office at 503-655-8821.
