Hi all, Hope this is OK to put here. I've been keeping my eyes peeled for a Sun Conure in need of a home, but haven't found a bird suitable yet. I thought I'd throw this out here, too, just in case any of you horsey people are looking for a good home for your bird.
My family lost our Sun Conure to PDD or a brain tumr about 3 years ago. Our avian vet wasn't sure which it was and we tested and treated our bird for every other possibility. Eventually, we had to let her go, as her quality of life was rapidly deteriorating.
Awhile ago I bought my daughter a 5 month old green cheek conure at our vet's suggestion (green cheeks are supposed to be good with kids). The bird, Fiona, has turned out to be quite a little stinker. She is better with adults that she can't intimidate with biting.
We are keeping Fiona, but I'm looking for a loving, kid-friendly Sun Conure for my daughter, age 9. The bird's age isn't important, in fact, I'd prefer an older bird whose personality and temperament is known.
If any of you have or know of a Sun looking for a good home, please let me know. I can provide personal and vet references (and I am a SAFE adopter, too--Ariel). Thanks!

What a good thing to do- rehoming birds can be so difficult. I don't know of a conure but I did see a posting at my local pet store (in sammamish) for a cockatoo that the person has had for 20 years (since it was just a few weeks old) and must give up. It really pulled at my heart strings so I thought I'd post about it.
Have you looked on pet finder?

It is really sad and really hard on the parrot. They are so smart and live so long.
I have looked on petfinder, but haven't found anything that sounds kid friendly enough. Unfortunately, a lot of birds are given up because their owners don't spend enough time with them so they develop bad habits (screaming, biting, feather plucking, etc.). Ideally, I'd like to find a bird that doesn't have behavior problems and the family just wants to find them a new home. I'm not in any rush.

Be forwarned, screaming is a normal part of Sun Conure life. It's a form of greeting in the wild. We had a Gold Cap Conure that taught our Amazon to scream. Yay!
