Begrudgingly looking for a new farrier in Maple Valley. Using Rich Johnson for 3 years now, love him -he is prompt, kind, great with the horses, but leaves the toe very long, and despite several discussions, which he was very nice about, but the length hasn't really changed and we can't seem to come to an agreement of how the foot should look. My vet also agrees that they are being left too long.
Vet recommended Rachel Cross, George Castenella and Shane Richmond. Anyone heard/used these farriers or have a recommendation? All mine are barefoot now, but won't rule out shoes next year.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I tried Rachel Cross, she was nice to the horses but to me she trims them too short and my mare tried to kick her, which she never has in past to anyone, so Racher brought her boyfriend and he totally tortured my poor mare and so we quit. I heard Shane Richmond is very good but very slow. I use Dion Denison. he is from Enumclaw and is great with my horses and does great job. 253 561 1654 is his #. good luck, it`s so hard to find a farrier that fits you.

We have been using Shane Richman ever since he came to the area and started shoeing a few years ago. He is slow, but he takes his time to make sure the shoe fits the horse and not the other way around. He does a great job with Mercedes who is barefoot in the back. She is always sound and is never cut too long or too short. Shane has also been able to keep Starlett, who has the world's worst hooves according to the many farriers we have been through, in shoes and ridable. He is patient with young/nervous horses, but will firm up if the need is there. He isn't the kind of farrier that is stuck to one style of farrier work or another. He is willing to learn new techniques and listen to your opinion on everything. I also like that he is very flexible in scheduling. I don't know much about the others you mentioned, so I won't comment on them. Good luck!

I use wallie jonhson, my neighbor recommended him to us a few years back and she's been with him for at least six. he's quick and great with my horses. and learns their problems if any before he starts

My all time favorite when I lived in Thurston County, Wa., is Fred Striebeck. My 3 horses were always sound and I never had any problem with them. I am going to try and convince him to come to central Oregon where I now live with 15 horses!!!!!!! Love it!!!!
