I thought that might be the case since he is a little guy! It always makes me wonder why people even use a back cinch when it is 6" from their horse's belly...um it's a cinch...hello!

I will use a back cinch post like because I plan on dragging a log or tires or barrels with him to help get him gentle and it does help with stability. And it does pop up in back without a person in the saddle. Might need one more pad to help with the fit, but it looks to be OK for now. I certainly am NOT going to ride in the kid/pony saddle!

He didn't get ridden last week as I was down for the count with a bug. Buena went into heat last week, so she isn't turned out with him because when I tried it he was just a wee bit too friendly and she wasn't thwarting his advances enough. He got a new grassy paddock yesterday. We don't care if he churns this into a muddy mess because we're expanding the garden this year so he's going us a favor by eating up all the grass and pre-tilling it for us. Second ride by me, first ride for me during the clinic. www.youtube.com/v/1vfbQPb6PjARicky had ridden him the day before. I did a second ride of the day on him outside of the round pen during the horsemanship class in the afternoon, booking around the other horses. I'll be putting probably 2 more rides on him today during the last day of the clinic.

Sounds like great progress on Buena! How exciting Ummm Dodger. I'm going to claim bad typing with the cast...but in my head...I *MEANT* "...great progress on Dodger, Buena." funny how the omission of one word and a comma changes everything....oops! Sorry Great Progress on DODGER! very cute little guy, btw !!

It's all good. More pics and video coming. Had another couple of great rides today. Attempted loping, but that transition is still pretty sticky. He likes to throw pony fits instead of going. We'll get there, though. I am very happy with the progress and now have renewed confidence that he can be reformed to a respectable member of society.

Had another good ride yesterday. Hauled him down to my friend's place in Oly and rode for a couple of hours in her arena. Steering is coming along, and he's finally getting a bit lighter to my seat. Started working on a soft feel and downward transitions to a stop. He did have one little bucking fit when I insisted on a trot to lope transition, but we got that dispute settled without me becoming a dirt dart. He's a fun little guy to ride and his mind is really starting to settle. I'll still be making an appointment to have my vet check his hormone levels and also do dental work. His canine teeth are coming in.

"dirt dart" LOL I like to call them "unexpected aerial dismounts"-thank God it's been a while-I am not as bouncy as I was as a teenager!

From Friday afternoon: I need to find an even shorter back cinch. Thankfully I think I have a line on one.
