I know that they have a walk over bridge there, and also some peeler poles for back throughs and sidepassing. I've seen a gate in the past, so I'll check on that one.

Checked with Frontier Park regarding the trail equipment. It all belongs to the Pierce County 4H, and they will rent it all to us. It is fairly cheap, I think it was $50.00 per day. I will forward the info on to Bonnie. They had a list of what was included and I'll post that here so everyone can see.

Trillium are you taking the prize donations again this year ?? Ive got 2 mayb 3 brand new lite waterproof turnouts.. They are 78's but Lark swims in it... hummm, now there is an idea: fold it into a tube shape, sew it up, put air in it and Lark would have a flotation device... ;D

Well, I would certainly be happy to be in charge of the prize drawing again this year. I will have to double check with Jamie and crew to make sure it is OK.

Heidi, the judge from last year, might be interested in judging again. I think I still have her contact information. I will dig for it. I really liked her judging style and I know she enjoyed the show. I'll see what I can find.

Speaking of time....last year when I was contacting companies for sponsorship and/or donations many of them required a 3-4 month head's up. It's really not too early if anyone wants to start thinking about that.
I was just at Pro Horse the other day and Cheryl said she's already thinking about how she wants to support the show ;D

Might I also suggest that we ask restaurants and other merchants for raffle items - dinners, theater tickets, gift certificates to stores (even groceries) - are all wonderful ways of raising $$$

Might I also suggest that we ask restaurants and other merchants for raffle items - dinners, theater tickets, gift certificates to stores (even groceries) - are all wonderful ways of raising $$$ exactly! We didn't have enough time to invent the system AND do the best job possible in those avenues for HeART of the Horse but with only 3 months to go to the Show, it's time to get working on those types of donations for the Show. I'd say we should all be hitting up our first line of contacts right now and be sending out letters to the rest asap! Also keep in mind that some organizations only wish to participate if the event will take place in their local area. I'd say anyone in the Graham/local areas need to be working on that full force. Last year I got a positive response from Trader Joes only to find out two days before the show that my local store decided that it wasn't 'local' enough for them (Federal Way vs Bellevue) and suggested that we try the Bellevue Store but there wasn't enough time at that point. The reason they gave was that they have a marketing budget to pay for these kinds of donations but it's ear marked for "local" marketing....I'm just putting that out there but PLEASE don't let that stop you from trying to gather donations from anywhere you like! I'm going to hit up my favorite places in Federal Way. That said.... Don't forget to mention that people will be coming from ALL OVER the state and beyond to attend this. The horse-folk markets probably don't care that much about where the support comes from because they know we'll drive to where ever we need to for the right blanket, bit or feed but when it comes to non-horse businesses, I think that we can play up our large message board participation, wide-spread support and age span appeal!! I feel inspired to work on donations today!

What is the official procedure for soliciting donations or raffle items from businesses? Do we have a form or some sort of documentation so they know we are legit if they haven't dealt with SAFE before?

Being a business owner, and getting requests for donations frequently, here is what you have to have.....a form with your organizations name and tax ID number. If you are trying to get gift cards to the auction, sometimes it is easier for the company itself, if you outright purchase the gift card, and have them donate a check in the dollar amt. of the gift card back to you or SAFE. The IRS has new strict guidelines regarding donations of gift cards and it can be a hassle for a business to do it another way.
We own an Italian Restaurant (Amici Italian Eatery) just around the corner from the arena so you know you can count us in!!
