Re: Is there equipment for trail and hunter hack....
When I was there on Wednesday, there was a walk over bridge and some white poles for side passing and back throughs. I'm not sure what else is there. We will have to call the office to find out.

Personally, I LOVED the halter classes. I gained a new fascination for Showmanship after I got grounded from riding in the weeks prior to the show. I nearly didn't compete at all because of it but because I discovered HALTER class, I was able to have a pretty great first show experience! I'm also interested in that YEARLING class we talked about before. I don't know if I'll still have mine by then but if I do, I'd love to have a goal for him! I think it would also be a great way to showcase the SAFE Yearlings if someone was willing to work with them, trailer them and show them. I bet they'd get a lot of attention!! ...now I'm wondering if I still qualify as a novice

I need to know what I will need to find/bring with me over the mountains and what I can count on being there. Bridal Trails rocked with almost everything already there! If I can get away without hauling ground poles, the bridge, and some weave poles, I will be a happy camper. Everything else isn't nearly as obtrusive to haul a couple hundred miles in the back of an SUV! Oh, BTW, I call the trails portion again if that's ok with everyone else! ;D

Coconut - Absolutely! Yearling (or maybe just 2 and under?) halter to showcase all of the recovered babies, and especially because that would show the world how they really DO recover from that scraggy, huge-head look that they have when they are malnourished.
To me, one of the biggest highlights of last year's show was seeing Holly, who went from looking like a scraggly rescue in March to looking totally ready for the breed shows in August. It would be a lot of fun for everybody to see some of the other Elledge babies - walking "after" pictures for what SAFE has accomplished!

My boss looked at me like I was crazy today when I requested August 21 off. ;D I don't think he realizes how close that actually is! It'll go by way too fast.
I didn't want to drive half the night like I did last year, so I'll take a 3 day weekend.

This is just an idea, but is there some way some of us volunteers could learn horsemanship using the SAFE horses and show them at the show? Like a class at Jamies or something? I have so much to learn!

I have so much to learn! That would be great, wouldn't it? I'm telling you...I am totally sold on the whole showmanship thing. I watched tons of You Tube video's, reading all the comments and then got some tips from a gal that used to board at our barn who did Western Showmanship before the show last year. Then my farrier got me out in the arena to give me some pointers...that didn't stop me from totally spacing out the pivot on my first class of the day, but LynnM told me just to SMILE as I passed her on my way in so I did and just decided I was going to learn something that day. I'm also not saying we got the pivot right at any point in the day, but we kept going all day, english, western, open, novice, etc...I just decided to do as much as I possibly could. I'm sure it was the volume that landed us with a pretty ribbon in the end, not exactly the talent But it opened a whole world up for me. I may not be the most acomplished rider but I can lead a horse and I can groom...and it turns out there's a class for that Does anyone have any contacts that might be willing to come and give us some pointers? I'm game!!! ...and it's more than just leading your horse around... I figured THAT out quickly, but it certain is something that even non-riders can do.

Aww, Jet. You and Coconut looked great. This would be so great to get the babies and the horses that may not be quite ready to show (Annie, Hope, Amber, maybe Jasmine). I hope Willow is able to be there, so long as she doesnt have a home. Wish I knew someone who could help.

I may have a contact or two who MIGHT be interested in doing a showmanship clinic with this group. Where would you be interested in holding it? I assume it would need to be a Jaimes? Let me know some details, and I will put my feelers out. I have several friends from the show world who are excellent showmanship teachers! My mare could use some help with her pivot too!

I may be game for helping with showmanship. I'm happy to volunteer my time and go over to Jamie's if some of you would like. Equitation is my speciality, as well as pleasure, but I can do Showmanship. Anyway we could make the clinic have some kind of fee that goes towards SAFE? We can do it for free too, but it would be nice to get SAFE more money:-)

I would love to attend a class with a SAFE horse as that's the only horse I have!

I would definitely participate in a showmanship clinic. I haven't shown in that in many years and honestly don't remember much about how to do it - I could use the refresher!

If someone knows someone who wants to hold the clinic, then I am happy to host it and provide horses for volunteers to work with. FYI - my son was helping me with chores tonight. He likes to lead the horses - usually I only let him handle my two but Cedar is very well behaved so I let him lead her. Both Cedar and Little Miss were in the arena and I was putting LM's blanket back on. My son was bored waiting for me I guess - the next thing I know I looked up and he was jogging with Cedar all around the arena, with Cedar willingly and patiently jogging alongside him. I was impressed, I think even my horses would be like "WHAT? you want me to TROT?? Why would I do that???" So she may be an excellent Showmanship candidate.

I have been in contact with someone who is interested in holding a clinic at Jaime's in Monroe. She works with 4H-ers and likes the idea of working with volunteers & rescued horses in order to get them ready to show off.
I've seen another couple of posts about other's who might know someone who might offer that clinic or might do it themselves. I would say let's get on this and make it a goal for MAY! WORK with SAFE horses!!
I've also heard from a few volunteers that they'd like to have a set standard for working with the SAFE horses so we're not confusing them by trying different things.
Obviously I'm a little tied up the next few days but please feel free to PM me if you have someone who'd be willing to donate their time to set up a clinic for volunteers & SAFE horses. We'll work on that and the Tack Sale after HeART of the Horse is over!
