I just read Benny's story... all 26 pages... he truly is a testament to SAFE, Dr. Hannah, Jaime, and all the volunteers and their dedication to these horses. Congrats Lyn! I can't wait to see pics of you and Benny, riding off into the sunset together!

The day after I moved Benny to his new home I left for New Zealand, and will be here until November 22. The last update I had on Benny was: 1. He likes to eat. 2. He lunges well. 3. He has adjusted well to his new routine. 4. The new rain blanket fits well. (red) and no surprise here, 5. He is the sweetest horse on the property! I am anxious to see him when I get back.

So today I was able to ride Benny like a real horse. No lunge lines, just the two of us. We both have so much to think about. I am working on "more hips, and keeping my head up." (I focus on his ears a lot as I'm talking to him and thinking of everything I'm suppose to be doing) and so far haven't steered us into a wall. He is working on his steering, right, left and the tricky "back." Left seems harder for the two of us. I am still excited about our first ride, and he looked so tired he could hardly keep his head up at the end of our lesson! He is also being trained to react to voice, I'm not used to riding a horse that you tell to "trot" and that is what they do. I sure hope I can keep up with his young mind and body!!

That is very exciting that you and Benny are doing so well. Ana thegirl that comes here to help me with my horses lives a short way up the road from where you have Benny. I trailered Lena here and back home this week. I thought of you and Benny and wondered how you were doing. Thanks for the update! Happy holidays!

Lyn, you're looking in the wrong place -- the instruction manual for the horse is on the ground, just to the right of their head, not between the ears! That's where I find myself staring when I over-concentrate...

Benny and I continue to do well. He and I have just started to lope under saddle. The first few times I felt like I was working harder than he, it took a lot of kicks to get him going! He was much better today, even if he did try to buck. He has his moments of being very testy and stubborn. He continues to be a doll on the ground, and likes lots of attention and treats. I have found a great mentor where he is boarded and am still amazed that he is mine. Thanks again to SAFE for having faith in this little guy. We are both very happy. Tomorrow we will try a short trail ride.
