No, not really. She's had some groundwork. I don't like to stress their legs with lunging even until they are 3.

ok...But if I get a young horse like dory, what would you do for training? Cause I have old horses that are already broke.

If you don't have experience starting a horse from scratch, then probably the best thing to do is send her to a trainer.

Whether a trainer is "good" or not is entirely subjective most of the time. I have heard bad things about trainers who are phenomenal simply because someone has a bone to pick.
In the southern area, I would use Duane Hebert. He did a clinic that some of us attended a while ago and he uses a perfect blend of traditional and 'natural' methods.

awesome I'll look into him. I need to find a good trainer for my gelding... he wont let me rid ehim, he's broke, but he acts like a green horse that's to smart for his own good

I have someone I absolutely love in Thurston County...pm me for info if you need it. Price is right, too.
Regarding which trainers are bad: where's there's smoke, there's fire. One complaint can be sour grapes or a personal conflict. Six complaints? Stay clear, in my opinion.

Since I got some time to spend with the SAFE horses this weekend I thought I'd share a couple thoughts and photos... Dory was absolutely A-DOR(Y)-able...she was interactive, sweet and affectionate. Her energy was laid back & she really gave me a lift just to see her because she always let me know she was aware of me as well...in a good way

Some impromptu conformation shots of Dory from Wednesday: Jaime did the honors on the leadrope but insisted I crop her out of the pictures. You will have to imagine the varied postures she assumed to get Dory's ears forward....

Dory did great at the show! She was a little vocal in the showmanship class but settled down as the day wore on and stayed very manageable even when she was nervous. Susan Hammon from Cowgirl Spirit graciously stepped in to help with handling Dory in Showmanship and Halter when we were short a handler. Katy (crimsonlight) handled her for the Parade of Rescues: And I took her in In-Hand Trail. She did great backing through the L, trotting over the poles, and weaving through the posts. Then we got to the bridge, and at the very moment we got to the bridge, she caught sight of Billy Bob and Ralph, aka "the Goat Hazard": That photo was taken right before or right after she tripped on the bridge and fell on her face as she was so fixated on the goats. After that she blamed the bridge for making her fall and would step on it but not walk over it, so we finally decided to skip it. The gate was a little interesting because again the goats had all her attention: Oops: She was pretty good for the "waterfall": And fascinated by the mailbox: Overall, a very good girl!!

I'm telling you, Jaime, you need to get some goats. That way, the SAFE horses will all have been goat-proofed

I always enjoy working around this beauty. She is affectionate and funny, never over steps her boundaries.
