Quick update: Basset has been at Bill Basham's place, and is going to go home this weekend. Meanwhile, Bill and Mike have been taking Basset hunting in the mountains a lot! Bill gave her the highest compliment I've heard him give: "She's a good horse." And she is.

Diana emailed and said Basset is at home, now, and settling in well with the other two horses.

SAFE received sad news last week that Diana, Basset's adopter, has had an accident and badly hurt her back, and will never be able to ride again. Therefore, she has asked SAFE for help in finding Basset a new home. Jenny was able to visit with her this weekend after dropping Whiskey off at the trainers. She is doing well, although she has not really been ridden since she was adopted and needs a tune up. Basset is currently located in Tensed, Idaho. Her adoption fee will be the same as before, $1500, and will go to Diana. However she will be placed under a SAFE contract, with references and a site check required. If interested in adoption Basset, please contact Jenny at jennym@safehorses.org

Quick note: Diana's accident had nothing to do with Basset, in case anyone was wondering. Basset received a very solid 90 days of training from Bill Basham in Idaho, and is a very steady mount!!

FINALLY, I can report that Basset is heading back over the mountains this weekend and will be fostered by a very kind couple near Elma, WA. (and Mike F. will be reunited with "his poopsie" which is what he calls Basset ;D)
They plan to do lots of trail-riding with her, so she should be pretty buff again, soon!

Basset's very kind and caring foster in Shelton brought Basset down to the Portland area; she is now being fostered down here by another great family. (Thank you, Kris and Roger, and Karen and Coco!) I saw her today (pictures to follow) and she looks great! She had a few mishaps this summer so wasn't ridden much. She was pretty good though rusty when I got on her, and even better for her new foster (who is a much better rider than me). She is a great little horse! Cross your fingers that she finds a forever home soon!

Pictures: Karen found Basset's spot, courtesy of Kris - Basset's lips are *just* starting to twitch. Happy horse and happy family:

Karen and I have ridden Basset twice, now - the first time she was very reluctant to go forward, but the second ride was a 100% improvement. Here is Basset, English style (Bon, recognize that saddle?) and yes I cut off Karen's head, and they're going downhill, but I love Basset's eye in this pic:

hey! she looks great! I'm really happy to see her being ridden again. SAFE put a ton of training into this horse, and it's good to see it going to use.
I love the picture of her with the older lady. They both look gorgeous! ;D
