Basset is now greenbroke, and needs lots of miles on her before she will be "broke". She is great with her feet, great for brushing, loads/hauls, ground-ties, stands (mostly ) for hosing off/baths, you can touch and rub her all over including her inner thighs, flanks and stomach. She stands still for mounting from the ground, although she did move off once but stopped with an immediate correction. She is soft and light, extremely responsive to rein and leg aids. In fact, I rode her with virtually none of those, because she is so responsive to the seat. She is balanced at the trot, including up and downhill. She is sure-footed on the trail, and has a good mind. This horse could do anything - English Western trail, whatever. She has a lovely floating trot and a very springy walk. Truthfully if I could afford another horse, I would love to keep her for myself. ;D

Yes, thank you CC!! I know that you have taken a personal interest in Basset and financed much of her training yourself, so you deserve special kudos along with Bill, Mike, and Megan.
She looks amazing and let's cross her fingers she finds a wonderful home soon!

All I did was make phone calls.
I WILL say that when I mounted her on Friday night I felt a little teary-eyed. It made all the hard parts of rescue work worthwhile...
She is going to be a great little mare...

Bassett is pending adoption! Bill Basham, the trainer who has had her since June, has found her a wonderful home over near Portofino, Idaho. The adopter has been completely checked out and approved and the adoption should be finalized shortly!
Jenny has all the details, and many, many thanks to her and Bill for their hard work in finding Basset a new home!

Well hopefully Diana and Mike will stop by here soon, and fill us in more - Diana knows we LOVE pictures. ;D CONGRATULATIONS DIANA AND MIKE MCMENAMY - and not just for your upcoming marriage !! and a HUGE thank you to Mike F., Megan, and Bill Basham for the great work you do, and for finding such a nice home for our little mare. She will be living with Boomer and Shiloh, Mike M's two horses, on 80 acres in ID that back up to a National Forest! Diana and Basset will do lots of trail-riding with Mike M., and Diana will keep Basset at Bill's for another month so they can get to know each other with Bill, Mike, and Megan there too. I am thrilled for Diana, Mike M., AND Basset, who is living testimony to the kinds of horses that go to slaughter. I wish you guys much happiness and satisfaction in your partnership.
