Congratulations to all who are working with these horses, I can't believe the changes in Hope already. What a pretty girl!! Do we know if either of these mares have had any riding training at all, or were they just being used as broodmares?

Did anyone get anywhere with looking for information on Hope's bloodlines? I ask because she's the spitting image of a Saddlebred gelding at my barn, and boy would it be neat to find one of Flash's relatives. He's a big b/w tobiano, marked very similarly to her, same big eye and pretty head, and it sounds like same personality too... No matter who she is, give her a special hug from me....

I think this is the one you meant to link to: blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/horsebytes/archives/134787.aspVery funny! Yes, Hope is a bit of an attention-hound. She's so sweet though, its hard not to give it to her! I've been so busy taking care of these horses round the clock that I've had a hard time finding time to post updates, but wanted to let everyone know that Hope finally has normal poop! I think a combination of the second worming plus daily probiotics is what helped her. Phew!

Oops, thanks Jaime. So how exactly does that anti-diarreah prayer go?

Hope is doing great! Yesterday she was moved to the same foster home as Cedar is at (and Dolce was adopted to. She will eventually be buddies with Cedar and share the same paddock. She loaded up and hauled wonderfully, and I told Julie (foster home) that she was getting one of my very favorite horses, so she had better take good care of her! And I know she will. When we took her blanket off after she was turned out I was thrilled to see that her rainrot is gone and new hair has grown in where she was previously bald! She has also gained a lot of weight and is starting to look so much better, like a real horse.

serenasb: Of all of these horses, Hope should be the easiest one to identify. If she is registered (and I believe she is), the Saddlebred Assoc. will have pictures of her on file and it woud just be a matter of matching her rather destinctive markings with the photos on file. Once her health is restored and she has some training, she is going to make someone a lovely horse. I hope whoever adopts her will persue locating her papers; she is a nice mare who deserves to have her identity perserved.

Hope is shedding like mad and looking better every day. Her rainrot is healed. She seemed have a touch of thrush on Sunday in her left front, but we medicated and it is gone. No diarrhea since the move! I took some pictures of her yesterday against the flowering crabapples at Edensgate. She didn't know which way to look - Earl and Rhyme on one side of the driveway, or five VERY interested geldings on the other! A couple of the pix are in the blog: blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/horsebytes/archives/135515.aspThe rest will be in the slideshow at the candlelight vigil on Saturday. Hope is a doll - she loved the grooming and attention from Julie's seven-year old son Mitch, who helped me prep her. He is becoming quite the expert on horsecare, discussing rainrot (scabs! fascinating!) and how to tell dandruff from lice (Hope is lice-free, but he was still checking), the squits (British term for diarrhea - I got the crusty relics off her hind legs) and other fascinating subjects at great length.
