I take issue with the word "convenience" when what we are most likely talking about is a financial issue.
Convenience to me implies I just don't feel like feeding the horse any more, or can't bother taking the time to find the horse a home, or don't want to bother taking care of a horse that can no longer be ridden.
NOT because I can't afford to feed the horse, I've lost my job, I've been trying for a year to find the horse a good home and no one wants my horse, the horse needs surgery or vet care I cannot provide, etc. These are not "convenience" reasons and are in many cases quite valid.

I agree with Jaime. It should always be acceptable to euthanize rather than let a horse suffer. "Just getting rid of" a horse is not an easy task. I don't know of any rescues that have their doors wide open to accept any and all horses in need - no one can afford to do that.
