It's been a while since I have posted an Ariel update - she is doing fabulous! She had to be on stall rest for a while after her surgery which she handled great. She is almost all the way healed and the surgery site looks great, nice and flat. She's back out with the two boys and a happy girl. She is SO sweet - she loves to give nose kisses - it must be a filly thing, because Scotti and Kayo don't seem all that impressed with nose kisses, but she loves them.

I love my horses who like nose kisses. Even Teddie likes them.

Ariel, shortly after her surgery, on stall rest. Sara (epiphany) takes Ariel out for a little grazing and hand-walking:

Okay I must've missed something and I even went back to check, what surgery did she have?

She had surgery to repair a 3cm umblical hernia.

Can anyone give me more info on Ariel? I'm trying to talk my husband into adopting her or possible Dory. So far no luck, but I am persistant! :-)

What would you like to know? She'll be one year old on March 10th. She is beautiful and healthy and very, very sweet. She has excellent manners and is very brave. Her surgery site is 100% healed and nice and flat. She is conformationally very correct. She loves to give nose kisses. She is not very dominant in her little herd (consisting currently of Scotti and Dory). There is absolutely nothing wrong with this little filly!

Thanks for the info. I was mainly looking to get more insight into her temperment. I can see she is adorable!
How big is she now and how big would you guess she will be judging by her parents' size?
I have a 12 year old Morgan/Arab mare and a 6 year old QH gelding. Do you think Ariel is the type of horse who will get along with most others? My mare is THE BOSS, but as long as that is recognized, she's not a bully. My gelding is a little more playful/ornery). How do you handle the situation if an adopted horse doesn't get along with her new herdmates?
Sorry this is so long. Please let me know if it would be better to email you directly. I just put it here thinking others might like the info, too.

Ariel is not going to be terribly big - her dam is about 14.3 and fanaberia can tell you how big her sire is, but I am guessing he's not much taller than 15 hands either. She's two months older than Scotti but a little bit smaller than he is.
Ariel is very good with other horses but she is not dominant - she backs down to both Dory and Scotti. With Kayo she was dominant at first but over time he gained dominance as well. She has learned to respect the boss in a herd.
If a adopted horse isn't working out in his/her new herd situation, and there is no way to separate the horse, then of course we will take the horse back. We want the situation to work out for everyone.

Ariel's dad is currently about 15.1, and still growing (I kid you not.) He was MUCH smaller when I first saw him last spring. His sire was 15.3 and dam was 15.2. He has really wonderful conformation and movement I'm hoping passed on to his baby. The best thing though is disposition. He's amazing for a 5 yr old stud!
Ariel is bred REALLY well for both halter and performance. Her sire's side is bred for kind disposition and beauty. I saw Khramer's (only registered) half-brother in the US last week and after seeing him I have a suspicion that the Shabab babies may be later bloomers... so she may grow to be a big girl and may not be physically mature to ride until she's around 5. That's provided she takes after her sire though.
If anyone is interested in adopting Ariel and would like to meet Khramer, her sire, I'm more than happy to accommodate that. All of my Arabs have more of their sire dispositions than their dams so I believe it's sometimes nice to meet that sperm donor...

Oh yeah, and he's total bottom rung too. He is the biggest, most kind and playful chicken I've ever owned. He gets pushed around by GOATS. He's always been the most submissive one when I've put him in with other horses regardless of who's turf it was.

Ariel was an angel for her shots today. I have to admit that this little filly has captured my heart. She is just so very sweet and well-mannered. She's also going to have the flaxen mane and tail like her dam, and I suspect she may shed out liver this spring as well.
