My crew and I are home now but there were lots of things that got accomplished today, most importantly, the roof on the shelter is usable and the hay storage is ready for hay!
I didn't count...but I think someone must have at some point...but I'm thinking we had 15 people out there working today.
Thank you TO EVERYONE who made it out...and for those who are free tomorrow (SATURDAY - 1/3/09) there are still plenty of things that can be done so feel free to show up & stay as long as you can! Every bit is very appreciated!!

We can come up tomorrow. How early can we show up? Also, can someone PM me directions from Maple Valley and do we need to bring anything? Thanks.

Hey honeydo! We would love to have you come up. We are going to be sore and tired after today, but we got a lot done! Here's a list of items still to do:
- Shoveling out snow behind the shelters (so bringing a shovel is a good idea, we have a few but not enough) - Finishing screwing down the roofing - Stacking hay (if I get it delivered tomorrow) - Moving the temporary manure pile back where it belongs - Organizing the barn and cleaning the aisleway - Rehanging a hay feeder that fell down - Rehang the gutters on the shelters - Dig a trench and lay the pipe for the gutter run-off - And, if Del's delivers the matts we ordered laying those down in the shelters (and if we were really ambitious, putting up the new Noble shelter we bought, although that will likely end up being a spring project).
So lots to do!
I want to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone that came today! It was hard, backbreaking work this time, but we had an excellent turnout and as a result the shelter is functional again, the hay storage area is back up, and all the manure-filled ice and snow has been removed from the paddocks and we even got a significant amount of gravel down which we desperately needed. Not to mention all the horse chores were done as well. The weather gods were kind to us and even gave us sunshine instead of the wind, rain and snow that was predicted yesterday. Special thanks to Lyn who brought yummy chili for everyone!
I can't thank you all enough!!! SAFE volunteers rock!!!

For those of you coming today, we did get about an inch of snow last night, so I am not sure how the roads are this morning. I can't believe we got all that snow and ice out of the paddocks and then it snowed again.

I am so glad that much was done yesterday. I have come down with a cold and as I go back to work on Monday I feel I will need to stay home and take care of myself. My apologies and I will be wishing you great weather.

I certainly wish I lived closer and didn't have a restaurant to run. It would've been great to help with the needed chores and repairs! I look forward to having an entire day to volunteer in some way. Keep up the great work! We're with you all in spirit and thoughts!
