Just a quick question for everyone. If a horse is 14.3 at 2 years old, what would you estimate his final height 9in hands) to be? Basic info: wild mustang gelding!

I would guess 15-15.1. Most breeds do most of their growing in height until 2 years old, and maybe another inch or two after that, but most of the growing after that is filling out versus growing in height.
The exception would be certain breeds like warmbloods and draft breeds. They tend to grow much slower, and it is not uncommon for them to gain additional height up to their 7th year. My warmblood filly has grown 2 inches in the last 9 months and she turned 4 in April.
Of course every horse is different. Have you done a string test?

No, no string test. He's on the online gallery for the ongoing BLM Internet adoption. In Burns, the first buckskin/dun listed. Just thought I'd ask. Don't want him to be too big, but I also don't want a pony. I, too, was thinking in the area of 15, but have heard that some mustangs getting larger than expected because of switching feeds when adopted, some reaching 16 hands and up!
