This thread is WAY overdue, and it may take a while to get it up to speed, but hopefully late is better than never!
SAFE could not succeed without the help of its supporters. We have many individuals among us who work quietly behind the scenes, donating their time & energy, their barns & pastures, and their hay & feed & supplies, their enthusiasm & caring, and in some cases, a fair chunk of their lives! It's easy to recognize and say thank you for monetary contributions, but there are a lot of folks out there contributing more than just money, and we should take the time to thank them as well. That is what this thread is for.
I'll get things started here, but anyone is welcome to jump in and say a few words on behalf of someone special!

I want to say THANK YOU to SAFE who helped me out once. You offered and you didn't have to. Thank you for your help. Keep up the good work with all the horses.

The first person I'd like to haul into the spotlight is Schwung. Here's a list of some of the horses that Schwung has fostered for SAFE since its inception. It's gonna be a long list, so hold onto your hats: - Vanna
- Honeycutt
- Vivian
- Benny
- Trey
- Redmond
- Charisma
- Monica
- BJ
- Cheetah
- Lexi
- Mercedes
There has not been a day since SAFE got started that Schwung hasn't had at least one SAFE horse at her farm. So that's well over a year of feeding and mucking and nursing and mucking and grooming and mucking and handling and mucking. She's done it all without complaint, and thanks to her, several horses have made the transition between rescue and rehoming. She also nursed Vivian through her long pregnancy and greeted Benny into the world. And she's done all this with a full time job and a young son to care for as well. Schwung is our hero! Thank you for all that you do!

Next up is Averyscrazy4horses who is Trey's foster mom!
In addition to welcoming Trey into her herd and taking excellent care of the little guy, Averyscrazy4horses has donated the cost of Trey's recent hoof trimming, which is above and beyond the call of foster duty!
thank you, Averyscrazy4horses!!

Can we talk about LarkspurCO for a moment here??
Our poor skinny Mr Desert Spark could not be in better hands! LarkspurCO has already brought him up from 850 pounds to over a thousand. He looks better and better every day. We really lucked out when LarkspurCO offered to take Desi in. And the best part is every time someone tries to thank her for caring for Desi, she wants to thank US for bringing them together. I guess it's a good situation all around.
Thank you LarkspurCO!!

Two thank yous go out to Huskiesnhorses for her generosity and creative fundraising!
Huskiesnhorses came up with the idea for the Buy Schwung a Day Off drive, offering her own barn cleaning services in exchange for a $10 donation to SAFE. Lots of people took her up on her kind offer, helping her raise over $80 for the SAFE fund. So SAFE was happy, Schwung was happy and Huskiesnhorses was....tired, I bet!
Huskiesnhorses also held a yard sale and donated the proceeds to SAFE. She really is an example of someone working behind the scenes to make a difference. That's why we let her adopt the best SAFE horse ever, Redmond. ( ;D )
Thank you Huskiesnhorses!

Here is something you may not know about Cardicorgi.
Cardicorgi privately funded the training of ex-SAFE horse Bassett. And not only did she foot most of the bill herself, and pay for broken gates herself, she made several roadtrips to Elma WA and to Potlatch, Idaho to follow up with Bassett's training. Cardicorgi really went far and beyond to help this slaughterbound mare find a forever home and a new career as well. She is a dedicated and caring rescuer and we are lucky to have her on the Board of Directors at SAFE.
Thanks Cardi!!

Slewgirl organized and held a fundraiser that earned $3,800 for the SAFE fund.
Isn't that amazing?
Here's how she did it. She went to all sorts of business people and artists in the community, and asked them to donate an item or a service to the auction. Obviously no one could say no to her because the items in the auction at the fundraiser were both plentiful and fabulous. There were scuba lessons and photography sessions and training packages and wheel balancing. There was hay and ladders and a TV and yards of gravel and bags of grain and paintings and jewelry and gift baskets. There was a certificate for laser hair removal! Just a ton of fun stuff for everyone to bid on.
Then she rented a banquet room, hired a caterer, invited lots of drunken pirates, and threw an enormously fun party for horse people and non-horse people alike. The evening was a great success, and the money raised for SAFE was...astounding!
So thanks Slewgirl, you really outdid yourself there!

Dr Hannah Evergreen has been a friend to SAFE from the very start.
The discount she offers on vet care to rescued horses is just one thing that makes Dr Evergreen so valuable to SAFE. Mostly it's the care and kindness that she has shown to all of our horses in her care. She is a very talented vet who really gives a lot back to the unwanted, forgotten horses in her community. She's been with us through the highs and the lows, and we could not have done this without her.

Jaybird - What a nice person YOU are! Thank you so much for the kind words and I would like to thank you and the rest of the SAFE board members for having the guts to step up and DO something for these horses - giving the rest of us an opportunity follow along in your footsteps. You should all be so proud of what you have done.
And yes, I do have Best Horse in the Universe...Redmond. He's my punkin and always will be. I cannot even begin to thank you all for Redmond - he is everything to me.
And I would like to say to Slewgirl... WOW! GOOD JOB!
Valerie

[Aww shucks ] Another big thankee goes to Peggy, aka BuckslynLark (although now it's BuckIshnLark,no?). Her care for the horses is fantastic - Ish and Lark have struck gold - and she also has the patience of Job. I can think of at *least* 6 different times when she held a foster slot open for us, and plans changed at the last minute. She showed grace throughout, and we're very grateful for that. Thank you Peggy!
