We are moving Bella to the "available" section. She will still need 6 more months of rest (turnout fine, but no work) before she is started back under saddle. We are offering her for adoption now, with a condition of the adoption that the vet's advice is followed for her rehab program.

That's wonderful news to hear! What will her adoption fee be?

She's a beautiful mare, I'll bet she's snatched up quickly. Who wouldn't want a horse like that in their pasture? Something great to look out the window out.
Good luck Bella!

OMG! I cannot believe what this mare was doing today! I had noticed that Bella is always very muddy and seems to enjoy wallowing in the mud. She already managed to get out of one blanket and I found it completely mashed into the mud. Well, today took the cake. I've been turning her out with the rest of my herd after she gets her morning grain. Well, today she was out with 3 of my others in the big pasture, and it was pouring rain. I have this one low spot in my pasture that collects water, and right now its a small pond with all the rain. As I was cleaning the barn I looked over and she is standing in the middle of it, pawing. The next thing I know, she lays down in it, rolls, then sits in it, pawing with one foot so she is sure to get her entire self soaked and muddy. I have NEVER seen a horse do something so disgusting! Throughout the morning while I was doing chores she went over to that mud pond 3 more times and got down in it and did the same thing. So much for a waterproof blanket! Doesn't do much good when the water is UNDER the blanket. *sigh*. I tried to get her on video but of course by the time I got the camera all I could get was her walking through the pond but not in it.
Funny girl!

I think the appropriate way to market that is less "silly muddy horse" and a little more "personality PLUS!"

I think we need to look at the bright side...her adopter won't EVER have to worry about teaching her mud puddles aren't evil! ;D

It's her spa day apparently...had to have that mud bath to look her best!

Funny funny girl - it's a good thing she loves water being a Washington girl. We have plenty right now!

Bella's lame today on her right front (her good front). No obvious injury, but there is some heat and swelling. Fortunately, I already have Hannah coming out tomorrow to do shots/teeth on everyone so I will have her looked at. I actually managed to get some video of her in the pond over the weekend, I just haven't had time to download it! Allison, our volunteer, spent some time with her on Weds brushing her and cleaning her up. She's shedding like crazy, so maybe that's why she's been in the pond so much. She has a constant stink of swamp water to her.

Sounds like she's got mustang in her. They are PIGS and LOVE to splash and roll in the water like that!

Well Bella was seen by the vet today. She is a little off in her right front (not the bad one) and the vet thinks she's brewing an abcess, so we are soaking her foot for now. She was great for her shots (didn't even flinch) and had her teeth checked but doesn't need to be done for another 6 months-1 year.

I'm always happy to hear "abscess" rather than the alternatives -her obsession with mud/water is funny! Stinky po-nee!
Happy soaking, Schwung! May she be a good cooperative girl...

Bella's being very cooperative, unfortunately I think we have lost the soaking battle and have to move to Step 2: have the vet come back and drain the abcess. This morning despite soaking overnight, her leg was a tree trunk and now she has a hot hoof. She's not 3-legged lame on it, surpringly about the same, but none the less it is getting worse, not better. I have a call into Hannah.

Best wishes for an easy dig. She must be pretty stoic if she's not 3-legged with a swollen bum leg!
