I received a call yesterday from a girl in a desperate situation, and unfortunately SAFE cannot help her.
Here's what I know, the mare is 6 years old, no tattoo, supposedly registered but no papers. 16.1h, bay with a star. The kid that owns her got her a couple of months ago from some big hunter barn in Mt. Vernon. The story was they had paid $30k for her but she was not staying sound for jumping. Something about her hind feet getting trimmed too short on her heels and they didn't have the patience to wait for it to resolve (I know, story seems very fishy). Girl got the horse for free to use for dressage. She only has had the horse a couple of months, never ridden her. She got into a school in Las Vegas and so she leased her out to a family with a 14 year old girl to ride. She is leaving on Monday for Las Vegas, and the family called her yesterday and told her they cannot keep the horse. The horse got out of their fencing somehow (barbed wire, of course, no hot wire!) and Animal Control was called. Now they have the horse in a DOG KENNEL. They want the horse gone NOW, and she is still the legal owner, so she has to take the horse back, so is desperately trying to find someone to take the horse by Monday.
To complicate matters, the horse is not sound currently. Apparantely her hind feet issues are resolved and the farrier said her feet are great for a TB. But she ran around out in the field and is now lame on one front, not sure why. The horse is in good weight I am told, even a little overweight for a TB.
I am told the mare is very easy to handle, safe and level-headed, and the 14 year old has been riding her bareback. I am trying to see if we can get pictures, but no luck yet.
If anyone can help, please contact Constance at 425-508-0369.

This horse will be coming to my place tomorrow. :] I talked to the girl who owns her, she is leaving monday morning at 7 a.m. The dog kennel the horse is being kept in is a 8x3, and I guess theres dog poop everywhere and the people are just throwing her hay on top of it. :0 The father of the 13 year old girl is the one that put her into the dog kennel because he doesnt want to hook up the hot wire they already have up. Her name is Rody, and I guess what happened with her being lame is, the father of the little girl that is care leasing her right now pulled a dump truck up right next to her pasture and started dumping bark, scared the horse and she took off running and hurt herself somehow. Anyhow, she should be back to normal in a week or so. The lady that owns hers name is Christian, not Constance, and that phone number is for her boyfriends phone, and he knows nothing about horses. So, she will be delivering tomorrow. Thought I would let you know.

Im just glad that this horse will have a nice place to sleep tomorrow. Instead of not even being able to turn around in a dog kennel. The owner doesnt seem to have all that much common sense I did notice.

Constance is her friend, and she was the first person who called me. The owner called me back later, but didn't leave her number, so that was the number I had.
Thanks shay for taking her! Yes, one less horse I have to worry about tonight!

Just thought I would let everyone know that "Rody" is safe and sound in her new stall tonight. She has settled in her new pasture quite nicely. When she got off the trailer and saw all the grass her eyes were about as big as the moon. She is unfortunately still limping, but shes on powdered asprin, and icy hot with a leg wrap. I think its minor, and she should be fine within the next week or so. She is BEAUTIFUL! So tall, from the back she looks like shes just a tall QH. She told me that her vet said that Rody is 20-30lbs overweight, but for a non-racing TB, I dont think so. I forgot my camera today, but as soon as I get pics I will definately put them up for you to see. The lady I got her from didnt have her papers but said that she would send them as soon as the owner before her got around to sending them to her. So its basically a waiting game.
Very happy with the outcome of this horse. Glad she called you Jaime.

Also, I'm pretty sure you can put this thread in the "Home At Last" section.

Hey everyone, Rody is the sweetest, most willing mare. She would really make an awesome kids horse, as soon as she sees kids shes glued to their side. Nothing seems to really make her spook or apprehencive, I took her on just a walk today(no riding), and we walked past the llama farm down the road and as they all came up running full speed towards her she just stood there. Cars were driving by, and random people walking came up and petted her, and she was just absolutely perfect. Everyone that saw her today is just in absolute awe of her beauty. Shes just a very sweet girl. As I was walking around in "her" new pasture she just followed me everywhere, if I went in the stall she did as well. When I arrived there seh greeted me with a big neigh. I was sitting down and she just came and put her head in my lap and closed her eyes. I think horses have a sense of knowing who they should be grateful to. She shows her gratefullness very well. She just wants someone to fuss over her, and at the hunter/jumper barn they just rode her hard and then put her away never just taking the time to spend with her. She is willing to give all the love in the world if someones willing to accept it. But she shows definate interest in children. Her leg is not swollen or hot, shes just limping on it. And I think she knows when to play it up also. As I was haltering her seh limped up more, but then as I was taking her halter off she took off running. So I dont really know, I would like to get a vet out there sometime soon to see her. Where is Dr. Hannah located? Could I get a number for her?
I will eventually get pictres also.

Thank you again for taking this mare! I can't wait to see the pictures. Dr. Hannah doesn't go as far south as Issaquah typically, unfortunately.

This horse was one I posted a while back, when she was free from Mount Vernon. She is gorgeous, I think I still have her pics posted in my computer. The owner was very nice when I talked with her and the horse is very well trained and mannered. Hopefully the lameness issue resolves, she will make a gorgeous lifetime friend. Im so glad she is in a safe place. YEAH!!

Hey bwyatt21, If you have the pics I would greatly appreciate you posting them or sending them to me. My camera is unfortunately not working right now, otherwise I would post. She is beautiful though. She will have a forever home.

PICTURES!! one beautiful side. another beautiful side. how can I resist that face? such a good girl. I have a question in addition to a photo update. What does it mean when a horse is eating bark off of a tree? She doesnt crib or anything, but shes been munchin on bark lately. Just curious if it means something? thanks, -Ashley
