Update.
We adopted Jasper(blind in one eye) and Ollie (aka Oliver) from SAFE last summer. Both had been in the lot and were rescued by wonderful people, Jaimie and Gerrie who got them ready for us, their forever home.
Jasper is looking good these days. He gets regular vet care and his other is clear. The girls ride him every day. He is funny and lazy and stops and refuses to go when he has had enough. We've had a trainer come in give us assistance with him. He is deeply loved and we laugh at his eccentricities. Jasper is about 15 years old.
Oliver is Mr. Love Bug. He is under foot all the time and demands his attention. Our six year old rides him. As a senior, (maybe 25 years old) the vet says he is great shape and is pleased with his progress. He would live in the house if we let him. As it is, he free grazes every minute someone is outside. He is on senior mash. The vet expects him to be with us a very long time.
We have some new pictures. - Finally mastered the digital camera.

What a great update! Isn't that funny that as hysterical as it is sometimes to watch young horses play and goof around - that actually the older horses can be so much funnier in a more subtle way. It's probably a good thing that horses can't roll their eyes they way we do - or that is all we would see after about age 9! I would love to see pics!

Oliver is without doubt my number one horse! It was his darling picture on the CBER website that got me involved with the COTH group last June...gosh, it was almost a year ago! Anyway, I am SO HAPPY he has such good people to look after him...it always makes me smile whenever I read an update. Thank you redhorsewoman for everything you've done for him. I would love to see the pics too!

I can just picture Oliver happily wandering and chewing his grub - knowing he is now living the high life! He and Jasper are so lucky to be with your family! Pictures Please!

Also here's an update from Japser and Oliver's family:
We call our geldings the boys. Jasper is fat & happy. He tears his blankets to shreds so we are glad that it is finally Spring. Oliver is our pride and joy. He has a ton of personality. Jasper is pastured with a pony, who is 4. Jasper keeps him in his place. We have Oliver separate because of his special diet and to protect him from bullying.
Our family would probably vote Oliver the best horse in the world. For a broken down ranch horse headed to slaughter he brings us all a world of joy.
All the boys get routine vet and farrier care. Both providers come to us. The vet works with Larry to advise us on diet so that we can keep weight on Oliver. Jasper seems to keep his weight without much effort on our part.
Oliver loves his senior feed and he expects it to be warm. If it is not he will look me the eyes and turn his butt to my face. - He gets what he wants.
We have no problems with the boys. They are in their forever home. Our plan is to build a real barn in the summer. We made do with temp shelters but want more for them before winter.

OMG! Look at Olly's brand!!! It says JR!!!! I know, I was just going to go compare it to JR and see if was the same! Well, I looked at JR's brand and it looks a little bit different to me. It is also on the opposite shoulder I think.

Olly, if I recall correctly, had 2 or 3 brands on him. It may be that when they got him, the left shoulder was already taken. Let me check my records.....

Yes, per my notes, Olly had a different brand on his right shoulder.

I discovered yesterday that you can buy a Washington State brand book for $15. Anybody want to get one and we can look up all of these mystery horses? I know they may come from out of state but I'll bet some are in-state brands. agr.wa.gov/FoodAnimal/Livestock/docs/Form7053.pdf

I have the 2000 Millenium Edition. It was well worth the $15 I spent back then. Of course mine is now out of date...
