Larkspur wants to extend her gratitude to all the SAFE members for bringing her to Elma from the feedlot experience. if it hadnt been for your caring she wudnt be around to hear about her kids racing experiences...i think she wants me to hook up a radio/ tv channel in the barn so she can watch and listen to the races...
im on my way home from work now, lark has a visit w/ the vet..it appears the dear girl mite have been stung in the muzzle by some insect the other day..her poor face ws the size of a football in both cheeks..she is now down to her normal cute petite muzzle and still eating...
you will always be considered her extended families and pictures will continue to keep yall up to date w/ her progress...sometime we all mite be able to have a meet w/ the adoptees and compare stories , pictures and new foals....hint hint, vivian
THANK YOU ALL...............................

Hey when you talk to the vet about the sting, ask if horses can take Benadryl. The vet had me give it to my dog when he swelled up from a sting. He said one tablet for every 25lbs of weight for the dog??? He said it was different for dogs than people??? I was curious to see what the equine vets say. I will ask mine as well. With bug season upon us it would be good to know. I know we have a ton of these nasty stinger types out here in the country. If the vets say yes then that would save time and agony for the horse. Good luck with Larkspur and enjoy your summer

I have heard of vets prescribing Benadryl for horses. No idea the dosage though.

updte...the vet has no anser for the swelling on lark/ sly so we're sending weed samples to the county just to see wat they cud be..he, the vet, has a cuple of other clients nearer to I5 than i am, that have horses w/ a strange type of facial swelling as well/ they havent figured out the cause yet/ yet he hasnt ruled out an insect sting either// sending some blood work to the lab ....and she is to remain out of the pasture to see how the swelling resolves itself. ( of course the dr in me ( lol ) says, hummmm, the swelling will do down for any # of reasons at this point...oh, well, i dont like to play golf, soi cud never be a dr.....
per the vet, she looks good, good heart and teeth . weight at this time is showing good progress...
as for the benedryl, horses can take it, he figured abt 10 capsules ( the adult type ) per dose, or abt 250 miligrms...
