ANASTASIA (formerly Santorini) - 3 year old, 13.1h, bay pony mare. Anny is young and very green, but could make a wonderful project for someone with the time and patience to work with her. She is a smart little filly who likes to experiment with her environment. She iss already proving to be a talented jumper, and she is a very easy keeper. She still has some issues to overcome, like standing tied, and having her feet or ears handled. Her foster mom has been working on gentling and halter-breaking her. A filly with a ton of potential! Sponsored by COTH/SAFE. In foster care with Eve in Central CA. $450 Contact SAFE for more information: adopt@safehorses.org

Folks, Santorini (now Anastasia) is almost ready to go to a new home. She has a couple of issues yet to overcome: still fussy about her feet, doesn't like to stand tied (too boring), and we haven't done Trailer entering yet. She remains very ear-shy--just in case you wondered how they managed to clip a bridle path. She is most un-photogenic right now, looks like a wooly mammoth. On her Plus List: She is a bold little creature, and very slow to spook. She's very smart, almost too smart, and is truly experimental. She is alpha material, but not an idiot about it. She is an easy keeper. She is a talented jumper. On her Minus List: She is a talented jumper. She is an easy keeper--her new mom will always have to keep an eye on her weight and keep her on low-octane hay, lest she develop laminitis or founder. Both the Pony Girls have distinct ridges on their front feet, from about an inch below the coronary band to the ground. I think that this is due to the radical changes they had to suffer over the past 8 months to a year. (I hope the smooth new growth is reflective of their time at my house--the last 3 months.) It could also have something to do with a life-long selenium deficiency, as I understand the PNW has selenium deficient soils. Since neither of these girls knew when they came that horses could eat out of feeding pans, I think it's a safe bet that they recieved no supplementation until they got here. People who have expressed an interest in Anastasia (Anny) before have been looking for quiet, made horses. She is not made, and she is a young horse. Please stress to any interested parties that she will be unpredictable until she is older and seasoned, at least. Also, it has only been very recently that these girls have truly relaxed in their surroundings. I hope they will take with them the idea that it's okay to live among people who interact with them, but please stress to any potential adopters that Anny has not been too long in civilization, and that they will need to allow her more time to settle than usual. If I had unlimited time, energy and money, I would keep them myself. I think even my husband is disappointed that I intend to keep my promise to him to "only" foster. It's been a real education for me, and my hat is off to those of you who have worked with BLM ponies and horses.

Thanks for the update... I'd love to see a photo of her (and her sister) even if they are in full woolly regalia - I think they're really cute like that.

Here is a little update- she's safe and happy--enjoying herself tormenting the other horses and chasing the sheep. I would like for these two girls to stay together if at all possible since they've had such disrupted lives.
Her foster mommy said she would like to adopt her... But she doesnt know the adoption policy here and needs some help. If someone can contact her and help her out that would be wondefful, so then this little filly could have a wonderful home with her best buddy.

Just a note to say that Anastasia (aka Sweetie) is doing well. She is a year younger than we initially thought (according to the vet), and our trainer is in favor of allowing her another year before starting her under saddle. Her little companion, Apocaypse (?), was just a yearling when she came! Both horses have grown quite a bit. I haven't sticked Sweetie, but I estimate she's almost 14hh. The other one is taller.
She's a nice, level-headed little girl. She's not a great beauty--on the outside--but she's cute, friendly and just an all-around keeper.
