news.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=35417 A bill in the U.S. Senate that aims to end horse slaughter for human consumption will most likely be put on hold until next year.
"With an abbreviated schedule in this session before we adjourn for elections and the recess, it doesn't look like we are going to have the time to get to it," said Jack Finn, communications director for Nevada Sen. John Ensign. "You never know, but it probably will not be until next year."

Rats, I hate to be a conspiracy theorist here, but do you wonder if sending the wrong bill in the first place has something to do with them not having time to review it?

Jennywho, I'm with you. I smell a rat. Maybe because we've all been jerked around for so long about this. I for one am very disgusted with the whole legislative process after this nightmarish past two years!

That's crappy, alright.
If the anti-slaughter groups could come up with as much bribe money pay-offs kickbacks campaign contributions as the proslaughter lobby has, I'm certain horse-slaughter for human consumption would end.
Sorry, I'm very VERY cynical. That old adage "Follow the money" is pretty darn true.

Here is an update email I got. Now is THE time to be contacting your senator. Call them, fax them, email them...we need to get this bill on the floor!
"Several people have raised the question as to whether we will even get a vote in the Senate. One of staffer in Senator Steven's office has apparently said that it is unlikely to get out at all, and it is not on the calendar before the election break. But let me remind everyone that we had exactly the same kind of report from a staffer in Barton's office and our pressure carried the day. In this case, we have a huge advantage. Barton was against the bill and Stevens is a cosponsor! Staffers love to sound like they know more than they do. Do not allow negative reports to discourage you, but let them fill you with determination! Below is a letter from Nancy Perry of HSUS that gives some excellent advice.
We just got two new cosponsors because of your work;
Sen Nelson, Bill [FL] - 9/20/2006 Sen McCain, John [AZ] - 9/20/2006."
