Saturday was a cool, cloudy morning when I went to the barn to feed our critters. Odie nickered for me as he always did when he saw someone coming to the barn. I gave him his good morning kisses and hugs and went to prepare his breakfast. In typical Odie fashion he ferociously pawed at the floor as if to tell me to hurry up! (One of many of Odie’s endearing quirks) I spent some time grooming him and just loving him – talking to him about how special he was and how sorry I was that we couldn’t do more for him. It was a short trailer ride to where Odie would take a “trail walk” to his final resting place. The sun was barely peeking through the clouds and there were a few birds chirping. Even carrying that huge leg of his, he hiked up the hill without a care in the world. He stopped and sniffed and gazed at his surroundings a bit and then courageously walked on with me. We spent a few minutes feeding him the last of the bucket of treats and talking about how much he taught all of us about courage, strength and determination. All of which were qualities that Odie shared with us every day. Odie seemed very calm and I believe he was ready to go – he fought with such determination and was such a trooper through everything we had done for him. But I believe in my heart he was tired of fighting and was ready to cross that rainbow bridge and be set free of the body that was causing him so much pain. His last moments were spent with many that loved him. He was showered with kisses and hugs and peacefully laid to rest. Rest in Peace my dear Odie – you were loved by many and will never be forgotten!!

So a few days ago.....in memory of Odie....REDMOND donated $50. Not to be outdone by the neighborhood boys - Luna stepped up and donated $50. Well, yesterday Sue another one of Odie's neighborhood pasture friends stopped by....and she had a $50 check for SAFE in Odie's honor. Well, Sue's family heard that Sue had gotten out her check book and they decided to match Sue's donation and they donated $50 as well. A huge thanks to Ronda Russell and her family for not only donating their dry pasture space for Odie when he needed it most - but also for donating money in Odie's memory to SAFE. And Odie's memory is carried on......

That Odie Odie O made alot of friends in his short time with us....and in his honor we have received another donation from some friends of ours that knew about Odie's story - but never got the chance to come and meet him unfortunately. A very generous family that in Odie's memory has donated $100 to S.A.F.E. with the hopes that it will help another horse in need. Thanks to the Daniel's family!!!!

Wow...I am touched by the generousity of others in memory of Odie. Lisa, do you have any pictures of Odie to share? I know you emailed me some a while back, he had such a sweet face, I think many here would love to put a face to his name.
