Took a look-see at the Portland craigslist just now, and there's a storm brewing:

I'm not sure. I was hoping someone here might know and PM me! I emailed/responded to one of the "I've had personal experience" posts and hope to get a reply. (Of course I take it all with a grain of salt.)

Well, I remember when the mares became available. They were selling them ridiculously cheap or giving them away and I thought then that it was a recipe for disaster. By the time I called, all the mares had been spoken for. There was one in particular named "Batgirl" that I was really fond of.

Hey LDH - if you see this, go to the Portland craigslist, type in "horse" and read "Painted Horse farm - PMU mares." A woman in the SW WA area has been accused of getting free horses (PMU mares, for example), and then selling them to slaughter.

This really makes me very sad. I'm mostly angry with the breeding farm that gave them to her. Too busy, I suppose, to check on where they were going. I hope Batgirl got a home. Poor baby.

LDH:
Was Batgirl one of the horses at her place? Do you know who this person is?

LDH: Was Batgirl one of the horses at her place? Do you know who this person is? kim There were several mares at this PMU breeding farm that were being sold ridiculously cheap or being given away, because they were older, or had lameness issues. Batgirl was one of them. I couldn't get any info on them and eventually they were all marked "reserved". I don't know how many this lady got or even who she is, but I hope it wasn't all of them. Batgirl was the one I wanted for myself. A beautiful liver morgan cross. She was tiny and cute and one that called to me.
