Excellent segment by Sports Illustrated Senior Writer Frank DeFord this morning on NPR on the slaughter business. You can listen at tinyurl.com/8om3g(He realized that a racing gelding named after him probably wound up on somebody's plate.)

Thanks for sending that, RDR. Very concise commentary. I've forwarded it to a few folks. NPR reaches the best in people.

Heheh. That's where all us guys get our "need to know" car trivia. Prairie Home Companion fan as well. I wonder what all the folks that listen to NPR for their morning commute thought when they heard DeFord's discussion. Here they are faced with a trusted source saying something that "just doesn't sound right". Bet there was some mental pauses in the fast lane.

Bryn,
Are you hearing anything in the anti-slaughter crowd about the impact the passing and signing of the bill with amendment might be having on the future operation of the houses after Feb 1?

I'm not Bryn, but I heard a rumor that the killer buyers will be stocking up on the younger, and/or thinner horses after the price plummets, and fattening them up for when the ban is lifted. I got that second hand, so it could just be bunk.

geez, there's a cheery thought. More motivation to get the permanent slaughter ban bill passed.
