Though she is technically not my rescue. I now own her. Her previous owner is the one who rescued Chauncey, I have just taken over her care. Chauncey has arrived. She is safe and doing very well. She is now in one of my holding pens with a shelter and space to even trot it up a bit - as she has done already today. She has even let me pet her today, just a quick pet on the nose. She sure loves her hay, does her little 'talking' just like her last owner says she does whenever she sees me coming with hay, even if I'm taking it to someone else. She is very beautiful and sweet. She is nice and calm even for being in strange surroundings. She is just one awesome little horse.

Chauncey definetely can be trying at times- I should know! But it's only because she doesnt understand things yet. She has never been mean spirited while in our care, just timid and cautious. Such sweet eyes- you just wish you could talk to hear and that she would understand that you're only there to love her! She has been missed since she left and we all wish her much happiness at her new home! Getting her there didnt go as planned two different times, that poor baby just seems to have had some bad luck in her 12 years so far! She's a smart one though, with a lot of love and care perhaps she will come to realize us humans arent so bad. The neighbor and I have her two sons- they chit chat across the creek to each other and we see their mamma's face in theirs everytime we look at them. Dont worry Chauncey- we'll both take excellent care of your boys! We'll be up to see you soon!

I'll tell Chauncey to remember her babies are totally loved on everyday - heck, though she was there she KNOWS this (as everyone does) but I'll remind her. And you are welcome anytime. She came right up to me this morning. I didn't try to touch her, but she almost was close enough to brush against me (maybe an inch away) and then she just stood there eating her hay, making no move to move away. She is a real sweet girl. And I just love her 'talking' it is so cool! She 'talked' to me last night and I didn't even have any hay in my arms. Can we say 'Happy Dance' time. She is the coolest horse, thank you so much for letting me have her! She has settled in so well, much better than I was expecting. We have figured out how to extend the pen without removing any part of the currrent pen situation, she'll just have to walk through a gate, but I can still put her in the littlier area to work with her when I need to. She's going to love it. It'll give her a bit more room until I can halter and catch her at will, then (after her 30 day quarantine is up - if she's that afar by then - or whenever she is once her quarantine is up) she gets to go out onto the drylot (trial run at catching her in a bigger area) and if all goes well, then she'll go out with the other horses in the two acre pasture. And on the dry lot she'll be able to meet the other horses first with a fence between them. Which is much safer for all involved. She's a sweety I don't think it will take her long at all to start to come around. I think she'll pass Rhoen right up, but then he still thinks he's a stud and acts like it. Last night at about 2 I heard her 'talking' I'm thinking what is going on... So, I get up and sneak out of my van (yep still on foal watch for Adara) and I creap over there, just maybe 10 feet away, she's got her nose pressed up against the solid wood fence between her and the big pasture. She's doing her little talk thing, then she'd stop, and in return she'd get a little soft, very soft snort, then Chauncey did her little talk thing, would get a snort. So, I go over to the gate to the pasture and look. All 3 horses out there have thier noses pressed against the wood. Every time Chauncey did her talk, one of them would softly snort. It was so funny. I would have loved to know what they were telling each other. When I went back to bed they were still doing it.

Chauncey is doing fine, she's getting used to being touched with a rope and a 'stick'. She'll come up to me and rest her head on the fence next to me. She still seems to prefer my daughter to any of us, but she's coming around. What can I say... my girl's going to follow in my footsteps. The wild ones really like her. So far Chauncey is perfectly healthy. I talked to my farrier and I have a few dates to choose from to get her feet done. I'm going to call the vet today to see what date she'll be available for to come and sedate Chauncey for the trim. Who knows, maybe by then we can at least walk up to her to get a halter on her and not have to do our usual tricks to get one on.

Okay, unless the farrier says the feet can't wait (she'll be here sat. for Bean's pad system), Chauncey will get her feet done on Nov. 4th. If it's decided that they can't wait the extra 3 weeks, then we'll go from there. There's really only one foot that has me worried, left rear, the others are 'ok' not great, but not real worrisome. We'll see what Sarah says this weekend. In the meantime we're working on getting a halter on her and getting her used to being touched.

Okay, we have discovered that Chauncey doesn't like the rain. But she really likes the mud. That is one dirty horse now. She was pawing and pawing, so I went over to see what she was up too. She has this nice oh, 6 foot area, totally torn up, nice goopy mud... She saw me, snorted and promptly laid down and rolled. She got up with mud literally dripping off her... She's a mess. Then ,of course, she went and stood in her shelter, so the rain wouldn't wash the mud away. And she won't come out either. I went to give her the daily ration of grain mix and hay and she wouldn't budge. Stood real still, a bit tense, but let me brush up against her to put the hay etc. in her hay rack. She was NOT moving out of that shelter. She's not going to like me when I take a few loads of hogs fuel up there and coat the pen with it and then add a bale of straw to the top. Bye-Bye mud. Other than that, she doing great. She still seems to prefer my daughter to the rest of us. Everyone who sees her just loves her. Sarah and Bill thought she was the greatest little thing... And Sarah says her feet can wait till the 4th, but no later than that.
