Well, I just went up to feed Adara some more hay. She saw me, neighed, and came over to the stall door and stood there. I had to push her back (literally grab the halter and push her back) to get into the stall! She then moved away and let me retrieve her hay dish and then let me pet her again. She refuses to eat out of the hay rack so we have an aluminum tub in there for her hay and she always moves it to get the hay that falls out. I have to in and move it back everytime I feed her. I was watching her earlier and she seemed really restless, but now has calmed down again.... It's almost time for me to go do my nightly feeding, petting, feet cleaning, brushing, and watering... then maybe I'll make it to bed at a decent hour tonight. I'll keep everybody posted on her. I'm just so excited that she's calming down so quickly. I have another here that I've had 2 months who isn't near as calm yet. She is such a great horse.

She very likely had some handling at one time, but not for a while and the experience of being in a kill pen and crammed into livestock trucks with cattle prods can be so traumatizing for them. She may come around quicker than you think, I hope so!

Well, she's already much calmer than I ever figured she would get. That first night was a nightmare trying to get her into the stall. She was so scared. But now she's approaching me all on her own. An amazing difference. I'm too thinking that she's been trained before, but that it's been quite a while since she's been handled. She acts like she really wants to do what I ask her, but is just not sure if she should or what will happen once she does. She was terrified of the brush at first, she saw it in my hand and wheeled and ran to a back corner of the stall, that's why I just left in on the door and walked away... So, she's smart or remembering her training and once upon a time good care that she may have gotten, or both. I hope she's not one of those overly protective mothers. That could cause some problems. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Well, still no foal - yet. But she's doing really well. She made it a bit difficult to clean her stall today, she wasn't standing in her corner watching me today, instead she was following me and standing right by me. I had to constantly stop and move at a different angle to avoid hitting her with the rake handle. And if she put a foot down in a spot I wanted to clean all I had to do was tap the foot with the rake (gently) and she picked it up and held it up until I was done! I had to have my son help me, he operated the gate for me so she didn't get loose when I filled the wheelbarrow. And she was playful. She was snorting and pushing her nose in the new straw and tossing it around while I was putting the new straw in. It was so cute to watch. I also got to brush her all over except down past the hocks. And best of all, she left hay in her bin and was standing off to the side sleeping! I think I've finally got a handle on her hunger, or convinced her that she didn't need to eat everything in sight because she was worried she wouldn't get more. Either way, she left some in her bin, ate it later, but left some!

Adara's really spooky today for some reason. Loose poo is back and she's pacing and tossing her head alot and hasn't eaten barely anything. Doesn't seem colicky, just restless and spooks at all sorts of things. Plus her skin is twitching like crazy. She let me clean the stall but all but pushed me out the door. Other than that she seems okay... Maybe we'll have a baby tonight. I've been avoiding going up there since I cleaned the stall. I peak around the corner, but I'm leaving her alone just in case she is getting ready to have her baby. I'll let you know and if she seems to get in any pain or anything like that but doesn't appear to be foaling, I will definetly call the vet.

Well, still no foal. Wax this morning though, but then she promptly rolled in her new straw (after I was done cleaning the stall) and it was gone when she made it back to her feet. She's still a bit twitchy and not as friendly today. So, who knows, maybe a baby soon.

I'm doing the peak around the corner thing still unless she needs water or hay. Then I give it to her and leave again. I don't want her to feel too nervous to foal, if that's where she's headed.

LOL I am too. I keep watching her belly and wondering what's in there. My Mom has a 'baby' pool going on at work. So far the best bet for color is palomino (go figure), though my friend says red and white pinto colt. LOL Who knows, but we'll find out when she's ready. I will post pics when the foal does get here.

Just thought I'd let you know... Still no foal. More wax this morning though. I tried to get a pic but they all came out blurry, so I'll try again later. It's hard to make the camera stay still while you're holding an umbrella to keep the camera dry. LOL I'll get it figured out. Tomorrow is busy (Chauncey arrives) and so is Friday (Rhoen's gelding) and with my luck right in the middle of it all, she'll foal. Either that or she'll have me sleeping in my van for a month. Of course another month might not be bad thing where the foal is concerned... Just bad for me - that van floor is really really uncomfortable.

Thanks Kellie for the offer! Any time anyone wants to come and help out a bit (always have something to do) or to just hang out and visit, you're more than welcome to. It turns out that Chauncey will not be coming after all (see her thread) so I don't feel quite so pulled in so many directions. So far tonight, Adara is doing okay. She goes through these phases, one moment she wants to be all over me and the next she wants me 10 feet away from her. She's being the 'cranky ol' broodmare' to the hilt today. I talked to a few people today who breed horses and they all told me that they're mares can wax up a few hours before foaling to a few weeks. (I knew it would be a month in that van...LOL) They said they usually know how long unless it's the first time with a mare... I told them, 'yep first time', they laughed and said 'well enjoy the van'. Anyway, I'm enjoying her alot, even with her mood swings and it's such fun to go up and see what she'll do next. I don't know her well enough to figure out in advance what she'll do (not like with my others - I know what they'll do with certain things). Like today I got the brush all the way down her back leg (the swollen one) let my fingers trail over it (no heat). She was fine with the brush, but do it with out the brush... hah, she kicks and snorts at me. Then an hour later lets my husband grab hold of it and run his hands all over it and even squeeze it. He said he felt like it was getting better... Will she let me do that, no way. But it's sure fun trying.
