Hi HC and Appylover! Thank so much. The girl needs to put on about 200 lbs and her feet are sore now because she finally got a trim, but she's a love. That's my daughter in the pics, she had to post these from me since I'm the village techno idiot! Bella thinks she's her "baby" and Sassy thinks Bella is her mom, it's heartwarming... : )

Connie, I left you a message - when are you coming out to see the "girls" and have lunch?!!! I need some advice, too. It turns out that Sassy was actually "rescued" by a Thoroughbred "rescue" group, who adopted her out (at the recommendation of one of their board members) to the woman who starved her! Had it not been for the humane society, she would no doubt be dead by now. This so called "rescue" organization, is soliciting funds (they are all over the web, per my google search) from the public to help save these horses (coincidentally, these "rescuers" are also race horse breeders) and obviously did NO checking up on her in all the time this adoptive woman had her. I want to do something about this - as far as I'm concerned, they are a fraudulent organization!

Can I just say - without causing any controversy nor steer this thread onto another topic - that this situation (not doing any/enough home checks with a least one bad result) has probably happened to almost every single rescue out there. People for the most part are doing their best - and it is a matter of man power - rescue organizations are thrilled to get money support but they are equally if not even more so - thrilled to get volunteers - and ones that will stick with them for awhile as there is a learning curve. It's happened to the best of rescues - what matters is what they do going forward. Just my 2 cents and I most certainly do understand how you feel - it's awful.
