What a cute little mover. These pics should get him rehomed in no time. He looks awesome. Won't he be adorable with a little kid taking him in the show ring?

Trey was moved this weekend to averycrzy4horses' house out in Lake Stevens, WA. He's doing great, but I haven't had any time to do anything with him. Mara will hopefully have some time to do a little groundwork with him and basic stuff and be back to give us some updates!

Trey settled right in; however, my mare made it clear to stay away from her gelding-she was protecting her herd, I guess. After about 20 minutes though, they all knew thier place though and were getting along fine. He was heads down grazing until feeding time, ate his hay, and when full, hung out by my other two (as they were on the other side of the fence during feeding time). He is such a sweetie, and fits in wonderfully here. Today I am going to work with him on trusting me, basically try to persuade him with treats initially. We are also going to see about getting him a rain sheet for those rainy days, as when it rains at my house (live closer to the foothills) it rains hard. Will send updates soon!

Trey decided he wasn't too interested in carrots yesterday. He was more interested in the bag. He is such a sweetie and by the end of our bonding session, he was comfortable with me reaching to his halter and petting his face, and giving some pets on his neck w/out stepping back. He did the same at feeding time last night, so I will continue to do this everyday and continue building his trust for me...he is very curious though, so hopefully he will figure out that everything I do when I am around either feels good or tastes good. He does like his food though, so when he sees me coming with his meal, he gives a nice sweet nicker.. I love that!

Trey decided that it was okay for me to reach and touch his face, neck without any concern last night, but wasn't too sure about the scratching of the withers. He got into it, and I almost had his lips quivering, but he was still a little too unsure. I was able to measure him (to the best of our ability) for a blanket fitting, but it took me a good 20 plus minutes before I could even get anything near his hind end. So, it shall be interesting when he gets his blanket on for the first time...hubby usually feeds the horses in the morning, so after feeding, he had to come tell me and he was quite pleased with himself that Trey came running up to him nickering. I think he usually does this, but he doesn't have to know...

Trey got a new blanket!! He was such a good boy and very accepting of me putting this big strange thing on him. We first started with a saddle pad to see how he would respond, and after about 5 minutes of putting the pad all over his body and giving lots of treats, I brought out the blanket. He was great! He told me afterwards that he really wanted to be like the other horses, so they would think he was fancy like them with a blanket on. Happy to have him in a blankie on this cold night! He was so in my pocket after putting the blanket on (due to giving lots of treats) that the only way for me to stand away from him to take a picture was to put him in front of some hay, notice the hay in his mouth. This sweet boy is very camera friendly, he has his ears forward for every picture that was taken.

Trey has decided that I am a-okay..yay! I've been handling him as much as possible everyday, with either brushing, petting, scratching, taking on and off his blanket, and I started to do some ground work, yielding to pressure, desensitizing and sensitizing him to stuff. He is such a good boy! The first day I worked on him walking on a circle around me, he caught on so quickly that by the end of our session he was doing circles in both directions at the walk. He had a couple of yaya's during it, but nothing unhandleable. He was so proud of himself. Also, when I am out in the pasture, he follows me around watching and sniffing and looking for attention. Such a sweetie! Here are some video clips I took of him and some recent pictures. s92.photobucket.com/albums/l8/averyscrzy4horses/Trey/?action=view¤t=Treywalkingtowards11-02-06_1556.flvTrey trying to figure out if my camera is edible... Trey's a funny boy-that's for sure!! He's decided that he is alpha over my gelding, especially at feeding time; however, anyone can be alpha over him. I keep telling Storme, come on, stick up for yourself, but he just always lets me down...anytime Trey bosses him around, Storme just squeals and puts up with it, so, Mr. Trey is getting a taste of being alpha over a horse that is bigger than him. They all eventually settle down, but my mare, Raina, doesn't put up with his pushy tactics. She kind of gets a little irritated with him sometimes, pins her ears back as Trey tries to keep Storme out of the shelter at feeding time, so she sticks up for Storme so he can come in and get a bite. They all figure it out and settle down and eat together nicely, but I just find the dynamic to be interesting to watch...no one is aggressive to cause harm, but Raina and Storme know not to be one bit pushy while I am in there, so Trey is figuring that one out as well...he's getting it, but he sure does love his food, and sometimes tries to push Raina out of the way...big cojones (sp?) my friend... I do normally feed Trey out in the big pasture, where there is a nice tree that keeps him dry, but with the weather being how it has been, I've brought him as he tends to stand by the gate to where the other two are anyway, and I can't have him standing in the rain looking miserable...they are like siblings, one day they are all one happy family and the next its get out of my space!!

Okay, so I know I always say how wonderful Trey is...well, he is!! Yesterday, I was working on getting his blanket off for a much needed brushing, and the darn snap was stuck on his hind leg. I worked and worked on getting that thing unstuck and Trey just stood patiently, sniffing me every once in a while to make sure I didn't have a treat or anything...so, after about 5 minutes of the whole snap being stuck thing, I was thinking, the only way to take this darn thing off is to do the most dangerous thing and try and get the strap of his hind leg by sliding it down, not what I wanted t to do at all. So, I worked and worked some more, to the point where my fingers were sore, and the blanket kept sliding back more and more, (as all the other buckles and straps were undone) the strap was getting lower and lower on Trey's leg, and you know what he did? Being the good and helpful boy he is, he just picked up his leg for me, and held it up until I decided what I wanted to do. The blanket smoothly slid off-phew! What a good boy. So, he got his brushing, and he was just soaking it up. I always feel the more time I spend with him, the more we bond. He is really going to be someone's best friend.

Update on Mr. Trey. He is doing great. He and my mare Raina have really bonded...maybe they chatted about where they were before or something and found they have something in common. Raina now let's Trey eat from her grain bucket and Trey can even push her around a little bit-in a nice way though, but they are two peas in the pod. Almost as if Raina has adopted him as her kid. I had to give Trey a time out today though as he was getting a little too pushy with my ol' man Storme (low man on the totem pole) So, I seperated them to give Storme a break from being chased around from the silly boy...can't wait for it to warm up a bit though so I can give him a nice washing...
