Congratulations to Carla Schmidkte from Redmond, WA on her adoption of Trey! I am actually a little delayed posting this as I was on vacation this week, and Trey was moved to his new home last Sunday. I can't tell you enough how excited I am about this placement for Trey. It is a wonderful home and he will get all the attention and adoration that he can stand. Carla runs a small beginning dressage lesson program in Redmond. Her other 5 lesson horses are all aged schoolmasters who are now semi-retired, all given to her by friends to use in her program until they are ready for full retirement, when they will return to their homes. Each horse gets individualized senior care and are only used in lessons 2-3 times a week. A few go to shows as well, and she is starting up a trail riding program as well. Carla is very sensitive to the happiness of her horses and works hard to ensure that the horses are still willing and enjoying their work, and not getting sour as many lesson horses do. Most of her students are children and each child is assigned a special horse to work with every day. Trey will be the first horse she has purchased for her program. As Trey is still very green, her plan is for the older girl you saw in the earlier pictures to ride him at her personal farm for the first few months (she is quite a good little rider), and the younger little girl will be assigned to him for daily brushing, handling and attention, and eventually the younger girl will take him over and he will be "her" pony. On the day that they came out to meet Trey, the older girl was so excited when she got off of him, she was jumping up and down, and loudly whispered in her mom's ear "He's PERFECT!!". It was then that I knew I was looking at Trey's future home. Trey will have a permanent home with Carla and will never be outgrown, as there will always be a child there able to love and adore him.

Hooray for Trey! This guy has been with SAFE for almost 2 years - we rescued him when he was yearling, and still at his momma's side. It is so wonderful to have found such a great new home for him. He is a talented little guy who is going to make these girls very very happy.
Thanks to everyone who helped SAFE get Trey to this point in his life. Especially Mara for fostering him and Monica Stephens for doing such a great job training him! But a big giant thank you to Jaime for fostering him both before and after his training, and for taking the time out of her very busy life to work with Trey's potential adopters and find him the perfect situation. Well done!! ;D

Congratulations to all! I think it's great he will be doted on by kids of "his" own! And one more great thing - he will ever be an ambassador for the kinds of horses that end up in killer buyers' hands, and will show that "rescues" are often merely unlucky horses, and not defective/worthless. Trey as Education Po-nee! Perfect! And thank you all who worked so hard with him. (((pats on back)))

I look at that little girl's face as she's standing next to Trey and I feel really happy for the little guy. From a feedlot to being adored by successive waves of little girls...wow, lucky boy! And it's cool to think about how many kids will grow up with Trey and how much he'll impact their childhoods.
I know that I will never forget my lesson horses from childhood...Dolly, Exit, Mute, and Bubbles. I often wonder what happened to them and maybe it's a good thing I don't know, but Trey will always be looked after. BRAVO, good work everyone!

The first, wonderful update. I'm so proud of our boy!
Trey is already a part of our family. He moved in and settle in quickly. He is doing great with his ears, bridling is almost easy. I have taught him to drop his head when I put my hand between his ears which has helped a lot. He is doing great on the lunge line and is figuring out being ridden. I am really smitten by him. I think he is wonderful. If he continues learning this fast, he will do an intro dressage test in Sept. He is one of the sweetest horses I've been around.

Another update on Trey: I lunge him daily and have my daughter hop on toward the end (he's not real good with this yet). Then I let them off the lunge and have her direct him all over the arena, which he is very good at. I am taking this slowly to keep his self esteem intact. He seems very happy to be here and we are enjoying him a lot.
