Seeing those photos just makes me soooo darn happy Thank you to SAFE and to everyone who's had a part in his rehab. I can't tell you how *lucky* I feel to have played a part in this horse's rescue and that we were able to place him with SAFE. I am so hopeful for his future. Jaime, I am especially touched that you were his first post-rehab rider...it may seem silly or not too important to some but it means a lot to me and to read your assessment. I feel some fondness in there and happy surprise...all very good news. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for suggesting he come to SAFE. I can't wait to see what's next for this HANDSOME boy

I'm just getting caught up on everything that's taken place while I was on vacation...wow!
I got to talk to Lynn Thompson, the reporter, on Friday before it was published. She read it to me and I was deeply touched. She told Lucky's story quite well and was able to bring (almost) all the players to the table to do so.
The story has been underway for a few months but it was really the last week where his most recent racing owner came forward and said he wanted to tell his side of things and warn people who think about buying race horses about what can happen. I have been in contact with him since the week I bought Lucky out of ESP & have known that he was appalled by what transpired but respected his wishes to keep it a private matter. I was thrilled when he not only gave me permission to give his number to the reporter but stated on his own that he had decided to speak out for the horses.
I was also very surprised that so many people were willing to talk about it...even Ron from ESP, who stayed very true to the form we have all come to expect from him. Callus and non-appologetic for what he does. He basically confirmed what we've all suspected and that is that he makes a fine living off of slaughter bound horses. I've thought for some time that he plays a secret game to see just how high he can go with the price of "Extortion" (a term used in repeatedly in the interviews she conducted but did not make it into the story...probably because it's more of an opinion). I'm certainly convinced of it now.
The story came about when Joan Deutsch from the Northwest Horse Forum on the Seattle Times Forums page introduced me to Lynn Thompson and we began a series of conversations over the last few months. I am thrilled with the outcome and the repsonse.
I hope it brings some attention to this beautiful boy and possibly some interest in giving him a forever home.

Caiti, I might add, is 17 years old and has been volunteering with SAFE for nearly 2 years. What an incredibly insightful and beautifully written piece. There's no missing that she's a deeply committed horsewoman. We're very proud of you, young lady ;D

If Ms. Raimer would like to come out and meet our racehorses (current and retired) on the farm or at the track, I would be happy to arrange that. Please let her know!

I spent the day in Monroe with Bucky B Lucky today & got to see him work out with Jaime and have a play date with Slam & Vanna. What a good boy he was ;D It was cold & rainy but we had fun. The arena shots are a little dark because of the weather but please enjoy a few photos.... He was a very good boy at the mounting block ...and very calm under saddle

They aren't the best but I did finally locate my photos from the night we first saw Bucky B Lucky.... 2009 Opening Night ~ Emerald Downs Race #6, he ended up coming in second place that night Jet, Bonnie, Marci, Corey & Larissa waiting for the horses.... Our first glimpse of him in the saddling area Sorry the photos are not so great....evening lighting is difficult... He walks out into the Paddock This Blur is the first three horses...note the purple/green blur above the center of the *pack* ...SWAG Silks and finally the end of the race....second place!
