I recently got a horse that is 16yrs old, possibly pregnant but we are thinking she is not. She has great groundwork. Follows everywhere with lead line, not pushy. Even lunges without trouble at a nice slow trot. The issue i am having is that she is very skittish. She is extremely spooky but in an odd way. One minute she is fine with something and all of a sudden will explode in fear. She is constantly tense around loud noises and wind blowing. We have done some work with movement desensitization, standing queitly while the whip is moved around and touches her all over. She is a fantastic mare when she is being worked with, very smart! But catching her can be difficult without food and she is very standoffish toward people. She doesnt seem to want any attention from us and would rather be left alone. I am wondering if i can change this attidue of hers at all or if she will always be an antisocial horse? We are currently just trying her out on a trial basis and so far its not looking good. She was going to be a 4h horse but her attitude seems to be too unpredictable for that type of work.
