This is the HMER debacle, right? Read about it over on Fugly then followed the links to ABR. D-R-A-M-A. Those folks are all about D-R-A-M-A. Boggles my mind that people throw so much money at rescues like that, the need to send some love to SAFE

I cannot believe no one saw the condition of these horses and reported it before they managed to acquire 53 horses.
Maybe it was called "Hidden" Meadows Equine Rescue for a reason.
I hope some people can get this info via FB, emails etc to people/legit rescues who can help one of these 53 hoses. Networking is so important.
shekaberry, it also irks me that people still support rescues that are not transparent and honest. Don't people know how to use Google?
I stay out of bashing people/rescues, because the safety of my family and horses is too important to me. A lot of people who abuse horses are psycopaths, vindictive, drug addicts and/or have criminal records - I have first hand knowledge of people like this!!
Before you adopt a horse out, make sure you do a criminal history check (Free on the Court Website) on the adopter and the BARN OWNER, and anyone else you may have doubts about, especially if you have children. Also look them up on the Sex Offender Registry.
These precautions take a few minutes on the internet and is FREE.
I never felt the need to do this, until I got myself into an unpleasant situation, regarding a horse I had adopted out - It could all have been avoided, if I had gone with my gut feeling and done a criminal history check on the Barn Owner first!!

shekaberry, it also irks me that people still support rescues that are not transparent and honest. Don't people know how to use Google? I suspect that some of the reason for why this happens is the urgency/impulse aspect. I think it's easy to feel that the horses in SAFE's care are happy, healthy, and "safe" (because, well, they are!!) and don't "need" the funds as badly as those sitting "on the lot" and "going to kill"... so people who might feel that they can't otherwise afford to donate feel compelled to squeeze that last dollar, or $50 out of their wallet. They are caught up in the moment and not making a reasoned decision. I also think there are a lot of people who don't realize that not every rescue is a good rescue, that not everyone is out to help the horses/has the horses first in mind or just how easy it is for these horeses to go from frying pan to fire... the same phenomena that fed PEC for years...

Oh My God! Let's hope the press confrence does some good-is there any way they can revisit this in the courtroom-or now that it's been dismissed that's IT!?! That is truly shocking.

I'm sorry, but those poor horses would have been better of going to the SH than slowly starving to death, going down and being unable to rise. What a SICKO.
