I think that in order for Jasmine to get better and safe, we're talking about a minimum of 6 months of training. I really don't believe that any trainer, no matter how great, can have the problem solved quickly.
I think it's pretty venturous that SAFE even put money into training her in the first place. She's an older, semi-wild, broodmare. Most places wouldn't have even given her a chance under saddle. I think they are being reasonable about not pumping more money in; there are other horses that we know for SURE would benefit from a month or so!
On the bright side, I do think with the right person who has the experience and a seat of glue and is willing to become her person, she could get better. It's going to take time, and it won't be very pretty. I think it's doable, but I certainly don't think that SAFE's standpoint is unreasonable.

I can not remember if Jasmine was ever assesed to see if she needed to have some chiro work. Do you think it is possible she has some pain issues in her back?
And I agree, SAFE's standpoint is not unreasonable. There is only so much money to go around. I just was hoping Jasmine could find someone to crack that tough exterior she seems to be hiding in.

We went out to Jamie's farm today and visited all of the horses... thank you Jamie- my children and I really enjoyed putting faces to the names (naughty scotti was a big hit with my naughty david- he's 4). I finally got to meet Jasmine after following her thread. She was actually quite social and let us interact with her. I must say though that after seeing her in person her confirmation is not really that of a riding horse. I think that at her age and after having so many babies she would make a fantastic pasture mate and pet. She's had a rough go of it and I honestly don't think she's built to ride. A sweet girl though...

I can picture Jasmine frolicking in my lush front pasture and watching her and that "arab-y" attitude!
Guess I better find that lush front pasture eh?

Yes ever since I decided to just leave a leather halter on her she is so much easier to catch, although she still won't come to you. This is the same as my mare...if I leave a halter on, she is much easier to catch. Like it reminds her that she is not a wild horse. No halter and leave her in a field for a few days with no handling and she thinks she is the wild stallion. Jasmine is gorgeous. Maybe she could babysit some younguns somewhere, make her feel useful.

Jasmine had a successful bath today! She was fidgeting for the first few minutes while the hose was on, but just watching the water seemed to calm her and she was pretty good to hose off. In fact, after about 2 minutes of having the scary hose be near her, she actually relaxed right into it and started enjoying it! It was so great to see that she's no longer so skiddish with so many things. She has certainly come a long way.

Please Please Please condider me for fostering Jasmine!!! It is all about her, and would love to see how she would feel about me in a couple of months!!! can't stop thinking about her... every minute since I read about her last month, I know I am and hour and a half from Monroe, but she would be on an amazing ranch, and would have alot of love and patience from us..... Cle Elum really isn't that far!!! Anyway, I sent a request to the board, for adoption or something like that but haven't heard back,,,,, so thank you for considering me!!!! Debbie

Jazzy got wormed on Saturday and suprised the heck out of Jaime and I. Worming is not her favorite activity, and Jaime and I marched out to her in the pasture, slipped a halter on squirted wormer in her mouth and she didn't even take a step back. She was such a good girl!

Good for Jasmine. Maybe she is finally deciding you guys are the good ones. Sometimes it just takes some horses longer than others.

I have actually made a special effort with Jasmine to just be her buddy. She doesn't have to work, just let me put her fly mask on in the morning and off at night and catch her for grooming, fly spray (which she still doesn't like) and the farrier every now and then. I always spend a little extra time with her just giving her scratches and talking quietly with her and she actually now enjoys it. While she still doesn't come up to me, she watches me approach her without moving and will lean in while I scratch her and even let me blow in her nose and kiss it. So I was pleasantly surprised to see that work has paid off and she let me worm her so easily, and I can clearly remember Valerie and I having to tag team her to get the Panacur Power Pak in her while she tried to run us over for even thinking about putting anything even NEAR her mouth.

So Scotti was driving Aiden and Lola crazy as he was constantly chasing them, so I decided he needed to be taken down a few notches and moved him in with Dory, hoping that Dory would keep him in line. But nope, he quickly established dominance with her and started kicking her around too. So I thought, I'll put him in with Jasmine and Annie, they won't put up with his crap and teach him a lesson!
At first, my plan was working out perfectly. Jasmine and Annie were taking turns pinning their ears and chasing him around a bit, being mean but not too mean. But then this morning, when I go out to feed, there is Scotti, NURSING off of Jasmine, who was standing there squirting and winking while he slurped away and then nuzzled her lovingly, clearly torn between whether to treat her as a mommy or a new girlfriend (Jasmine obviously didn't care). The worst is when he lifted his head up, and he had a milk-face! She is producing milk still! Who would have thought!
So, maybe Jasmine could have a career as a nurse mare?
But not for already weaned yearlings! So I will have to try yet another situation for Naughty Scotti.

OK, that brought a smile to my face and made me laugh out loud. Scotti clearly knows how to have the best of both worlds.

Wow. She hasn't had a foal on her in over a year. Is this a common occurence in 'career' broodmares or is Jasmine special?
