Wow Megan! First of all, congrats on getting her registered! I love the name....love that you kept the "Sasha" part of it..(cuz I named her, and always thought her name really fit her). And you look great on her! She looks so relaxed now and happy with her work. Great job!!!

Yes, we're looking forward to it, too. She certainly does look like a Sasha and nothing else seems to fit. I love that most of the time we're working with her, she has her ears up and she's happy. When we first started, she wasn't as pleasant to work with. It's cute when I'm riding her and she's "wagging" her tail back and forth. Can't wait for the show!

She doesn't seem to like the ramp... My trainer is coming with some other girls and their horses as well, so it should be a lot of fun! I know Sasha will be excited to show off, too.

Soooo YOU did great! I'm so happy you're coming with a group from your barn. Me too...we had a scratch (Basil picked the WRONG week to act up so no fun for him!) ...so it'll be 4 of us now and MAYBE 5 if I can talk someone into it

Well, my barnmates will be there at least. I will probably be there as well, but minus Sasha. Yep, she's a scratch, too. She doesn't like to load into the trailer and in hindsight, we should have started working on that awhile ago but the show snuck up on us. Although we got her in four times while practicing tonight, it wasn't easy and I don't want to stress her out and make showing a negative thing. Sooo, long story short she won't be there tomorrow. But, we'll be working with her on trailering and taking her places so she gets more comfy with it. I should be there tomorrow to watch at least. Megan

Good Morning- I wanted to post a quick update on Sasha (sorry it's been so long!). She's currently on hold with her training as she's had some lameness issue with her hind end. Originally Tacoma Equine thought it was a stifle issue, but Dr. Sara Owens is working with her and after attempting to block (Sasha was a bit naughty with that) and doing x-rays, nothing conclusive has come up. It seems to be a soft tissue injury and we'll be doing an ultrasound to determine what may be going on with her. Other than that, we were doing W/T/C and recently working with her on spray bottles and clippers. She's very ticklish with the clippers up by her bridle path, but coming along. She's also tolerant of spraying on her legs while standing still, which is a big improvement! I'll update when we find out what's going on with Sasha. On another note, I saw that Amber healed nicely and is back in training--that's great! She really has turned into a beautiful mare. I'm only allowed one horse at a time, otherwise I'd be looking at her!

Sasha update: Vet did a block on her right rear leg and confirmed the issue is her rear suspensories, let's hope it's not degenerative. She is on unlimited hand walking & stall/paddock rest for two months, then we can begin riding her at the walk or 10 mins for 14 days, 20 mins for another 14 days, then 2-3 mins of trotting with the walking for another 14 days and then we'll re-evaluate her. The vet felt her leg confirmation wasn't bad and was not likely the cause. If it is DSLD, then she has a 60% chance of re-injury. If not and she does well with her rehab, then she has a 25% chance of re-injury.
She's a little ball of energy, so we'll see how she tolerates the hand walking and stall rest.

Hi Megan, I am sorry to hear about Sasha's diagnosis. Thank you for taking such good care of her and hopefully she will rehab nicely and back to 100%!

I hope it's not DSLD. I haven't seen it in such a young horse before...that sounds really atypical. Has she been ridden in a deep sand arena or is there any other possible way she could have strained her rear suspensories?
I hope it is just an injury and she recovers 100%!

Well, I started thinking about the deeper sand part--that's possible. She was mis-diagnosed back in May by a different vet with locking stifles and the recommendation was to ride her in deep sand and ride/lung her up and down hillsides. That likely contributed to the issue and the re-injury from when this first came about back in May. As far as why it started happening in the first place--hard to say. I think we'll know more after her first three months of rehab. I'm glad to hear that the plan is to get her back to where she was at 6 months instead of complete stall rest for the whole 6 months--you can imagine what was going through my head when I first thought that was going to be the outcome. Sasha is definitely the type of horse that needs to be worked (either lunged or ridden) each day or she has a lot of pent-up energy. Her turn-out helped with that, too, but now she can't even have that right now. I do have high hopes for her rehab, though. She's a tough little cookie. Hand-walking should be fun.
