This was a bit of a nightmare to coordinate last year, so I am hoping to get a head start on planning this (as best we can, given that horses tend to come and go around here).
This year I myself will be able to haul three horses to the SAFE show. We also have two (Summer and Bucky) horses being fostered in Auburn that could be brought over fairly easily, and another foster home hopefully soon in that same area that will be fostering 1-2 horses. So potentially that could be 6-7 horses, three of which could be ridables and rest more companion horses.
If we want to bring more, I will need volunteers to help with hauling. Anyone?
As for the horses themselves, once again we have three categories of horses:
1) Ridable horses to be shown in riding classes. Need volunteer riders who can commit to working with the horse BEFORE the show, not just day of.
Candidate Horses Include:
Annie (Rider: Allison)
Lexi
Sinatra (hoping foster will ride)
Baxter (hoping foster will ride)
Deeds (walk, walk/trot only) (hoping foster will ride)
Goliath
Lucky (walk, walk/trot only)
Calamity
2) Young horses to be shown in hand (halter/showmanship). Need volunteer handlers who can commit to working with the horse BEFORE the show to teach the horse how to trot in hand, back, square up, etc.
Candidate horses include:
Lola (located in Federal Way)
Aiden (located in Carnation)
3) Companion only horses. Need volunteers who can be in charge of handling the horse in hand only - may want to do halter/showmanship (and thus need to practice) and/or leadline classes.
Candidate horses include:
Summer (located in Auburn)
Bucky (located in Auburn)
Honeycutt (located in Sammamish)
Little Miss (in Monroe, may be moving to Auburn)
Jasmine (located in Federal Way)
Not Candidates
Delilah and Sampson (won't be weaned yet)
Dexter - should be adopted by then
Scarlett - should be adopted by then
Zanadu - will hopefully be in training
It is expected that if you volunteer to be a rider or handler that you will also be responsible for preparing your horse the day before and day of the show. We will also need additional grooms (day before and day of show). Horses will be arriving at Donida the Friday before the show and will need to be bathed, groomed, hand-grazed, etc.
So to summarize, I need the following types of volunteers, and depending on how many we get, and what horses are still with us as we head towards August, we will be able to plan how many horses can actually come and who will work with what horses:
1) Riders (*high level of experience, prior commitment required)
2) Handlers for young horses (*high level of experience, prior commitment required)
3) Handlers for companion horses (*some experience required, prior commitment recommended if want to do halter/showmanship but not required)
4) Grooms day of show (some experience required)
5) Grooms day before show (some experience required)
6) Haulers to/from show from Monroe or foster home (truck/trailer and hauling experience required)
Let me know if you have any interest, thoughts or preferences! So far the only one we have spoken for is Annie, who will be ridden by Allison if not adopted by the show.
