At what temperature do you stop blanketing your horse in the Spring? The only guidance I've been able to find is "when it's 50 degrees overnight", but I think this is too warm for my mare. When it's 50 I don't think she wants a blanket at all. She's not clipped, her coat is quite thick though she's shedding a lot now. Currently she's wearing a heavy rain sheet.
So what to do? We're here in the Pacific NW. Friday night our closest weather station reported 35 degrees overnight, tonight it's still at 45. Last year we were in Montana, I don't remember what temp it was when the barn stopped blanketing.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sheets should be off when it is 55 and sunny out! The sun is what makes the difference - if you are worried about over night, she should have the coat on overnight, but removed for sunny days.

Thank you pk and leahlady. It is mainly overnight I'm concerned about, her blanket has been off during the day time for the last couple weeks (unless it was a cold/windy day). She is at a healthy weight and has a shelter.

I do what Leah does. Blankets on at night and off during the nicer, sunny days.

This time of year I pay more attention to the rain than anything else. Horses are perfectly comfortable at 45 degrees as long as they're dry and healthy. If it's going to stay dry, I keep mine off day and night.
I guess it would depend, too, on whether your horses are at home or boarded. I tend to be more conservative with my boarded gelding because I don't go out there every day and I don't want him stuck outside in the rain if the weather changes.
