Waldo was a 7 year old TB gelding that was one of the first SAFE horses in early 2005. He was supposedly a failed bucking stock horse, but he was so sweet and friendly that they couldn't let him be slaughtered. SAFE paid his ransom, and the Exceller Fund stepped up to pay for a couple of months of training for him, and he was soon riding very well, he was very uncommitted to being a bucking horse. After his training, he came to me for a couple of months. He was adopted by a woman in the military, who was in the process of moving to Spokane, WA, but was currently back east. She adopted him site unseen and then paid board on him for several more months before she finally arrived in Spokane and he was shipped to her. She has done a wonderful job with Waldo and he is now going training level dressage, jumping, and is learning tricks. He is also ridden by a 14 year old girl. He continues to be a total lovebug! I don't have a photo of him at the lot, but here are a few photos from when he stayed with me: (Note: that is Lexi that is running with him) And now:

Wow, he is georgeous. I do not understand why anyone would use a Throughbred for a bucker. It seems they would not be the best choice for one. I am sure glad he failed at the job though.

He probably bucked off some twit who was training him using the method featured in yesterday's FHOTD and got labeled as "crazy" and sent to the rodeo. It happens all the time. He is a lovely horse and I'm so glad he got lucky.

What a great ending to a great story. I love the photos, they capture the horse and rider so eloquently.

The last I heard on Waldo, which was in March, he was looking for a new home. The person we adopted him to, Catherine, had rehomed him to a teenage girl who recently suffered a non-riding injury that was going to keep her from being able to ride. I'm hoping to find out his status soon (Waldo was adopted before SAFE existed and there was no adoption contract). Here are some beautiful photos she sent me though of him with his teenage owner, I believe he is very much loved:

Chance is in need of a new home as his current owner had a skiing accident and can no longer ride, and SAFE will be assisting in his placement. Here's his description:
Chance is an 11yo 16.1hh Bay TBx gelding. He flunked out of bucking horse school, and was rescued from slaughter by SAFE. When you get to know him, he WILL steal your heart! Currently ridden English; previously had some dressage training and an introduction to jumping. Also has trail experience! He is healthy, sound, UTD on all vaccinations and feet. A skiing accident has left his owner unable to ride. He deserves better than standing around bored in a paddock. He needs a partner and a job in a forever home. Confident rider a must, he is not a beginner’s horse. He responds well to Natural Horsemanship training methods (knows his Seven Games!) Currently located in Clearview.
Adoption Fee: $1000

That must be heartbreaking for his owner. My deepest sympathy for what she must be going through on many levels.
Someone is going to get a wondeful horse by the looks of things...
Best wishes to Chance/Waldo and his people...may everyone have the best possible outcome.

Are they/you willing to adopt to Alaska? He looks like a possible fit for me, but I couldn't fill out the adoption application for Cedar because of my location.
I have a horse right now (I can send pictures of his condition, if you are willing to believe them), references, and lots of love if this is possible.
